Asa, I envy you. If you need volunteers next time - send me a PM.  I'm very interested in what you guys are doing.

Me too! A good friend of mine is a Director at E Center in the fisheries program and would also be up to volunteer.

I use the stringer method while floating and canvas bag them in transit to shore. Then they go on ice for the drive home.

Thanks for the idea of the burlap sack - I forgot all about that one, my Grandfather always used one, I thought it was because he could get them for free. I am gonna check in at our local coffee roaster and try to pick some up.

Right after Thanksgiving sounds great - I could definitely use some instruction on reading water and landing metalheads.

Beautiful ocean, nice boil, great fish antics. I like the fishing, didn't care for the audio. Liked the textual posturing even less.

Nice stringerload, gorgeous Ling! About how deep is it inside that cove?

Nah, that is just a red wine filter. You know, so when you get to the bottom of that last glass from the bottle of fine wine you don't end up choking on the crystals that are left. Right Van? (I mean Dan)

My buddy Joe from Ukiah and I paddled out at 0700 went Northwest around the point into a cove and popped some Abs. Visibility was in the 30' range - we usually dive further south where the vis is much less it was a treat to able to watch each other dive and see it all. Great wildlife - huge sun stars, red and purple urchins, sea trout and a nice Ling - dang I wish I had my pole spear with me! :smt010

After abs (nothing big or deep, max of 8.25") we went out to the kelp forest and did some jigging. Joe got a Blue, a Vermilion and a Ling. I boated a Blue and China. Great fun. :smt004

It was overcast on launch, sun came out then it rained on us, then the sun came out again. Considering the amount of pressure that area gets I felt it was pretty productive. It was great to get a final day in on the 'yak as Saturday and Sunday were family and WAF improvement days!

Heading in towards a promising rock formation JNO Gualala I see my partner catch a wave on his SOT - he is jammin' and hootin' - I start laughin' and not paying attention to the overhead set coming like a locomotive behind me. I get sideways and plowed, I'm still laughing until I realize as I go over gulping salt water that my weight belt, mask, snorkel and fins are loose in the footwells.

I am about chest to neck deep water, I let the 'yak go in on its own, grab the fins before they disappear, my mask/snorkel is partially stuffed in one of the fins so all I am out is the weightbelt. Cheap SOG that I am - I flounder in the surf after dropping off the rest on shore and manage to find the belt before the next set comes in.

Proceeded to get Maytag'd - and got no Abs that day, but did pop a very good lesson. I try not to laugh too hard while floundering anymore!

Great report Janice! I have fished there and caught nothing but shaker cabbies, but have heard of others doing well. Gophers make SUPER tacos!
