Hit Rodman Slough about 5 in the afternoon. The water is dropping so that many of the productive spots for pitching BrushHogs are now too shallow, only 3,4 feet. Yet, I tried, and caught zero. So good thing I had my frog rod. Missed a couple of blowups early on but it got noticebly better at sundown. Still, many fish missed the hooks. One fish hit after I had pulled the frog out of the target zone and was just floating out in the open near my boat. I was busy reaching for my spits and couldn't set the hook. It's what keeps me coming back. :smt001
I've been looking/waiting for the midday frog bite. Years past it's been epic. Not so this year, even with the hot weather. But that's just me.
I've read reports that the south end near Redbud has been productive. I have a hard time getting myself over there, don't like the drive.
Fish-on!

Hey! Thanks for the info. I'm going to try for tomorrow. If I make it, it won't be 5:30, if I'm lucky I'll be there at 7:00 AM.
Topwater frogs should be good for the bass that early as well.
Here, kitty, kitty...

In a PB 2 miles straight out, zero wind, small swell, large fish, great bite. Used RSKs, and Hoochies with bait under the skirt. Ran downriggers at 80 to 100 feet.
8 fish, one #30, six at mid-teens, one #10. Lost another slab, some silvers.
Didn't get out till 2:00 PM.
It's 6:30 AM and I'm headed out the door for the Bragg!

You understood wrong, Mooch.  :smt009 I still haven't hooked the 10er, or rather, landed it.
I'm still looking, biggest so far 5.3 lbs.
With regards to the question about the guacamole, it's collecting an cerain areas according to the winds. I know it's nasty looking but I caught fish topwater in the stuff. They use it as cover, shade. If you don't like it it's fairly easy to paddle just a short ways and be out of it. I only covered a 1/4 mile of shoreline yesterday, maybe, and encountered a myriad of water conditions.

... is still swimming in the lake.
Hit the lake for the afternoon/evening on tuesday (6/27). Launched at the casino between Lakeport and county park. They charge 10 bucks here. The short and skinny is that I had 7 blow-ups on the frog, and hooked none of them. I ended up with about a dozen fish to about 3 lbs, using Baby BrushHogs on a 1/4 oz head, pitched against the shoreline. Missed some nice fish, one broke off on the set. Solid fish!
The great thing about this lake is the possibility of a great fish.

Hit the lake yesterday hoping the heat turned the mid-day frog bite on. Launched at county park and caught two right off the bat. Then that was all. I then found some fish by pitching a baby Brush Hog. It got too hot so I packed up, cooled off, and headed to Rodman. Hit Rodman at 6:30 PM and did well, both on the frogs and the Hog. Two best, 5.3, 4.5, came on the Hog. Good evening frog bite. 13 fish total and only one dink. Lost possibly best fish of the day right at dark on the frog. Rather than slamming the frog it kinda slurped it. It pulled me and boat into the weeds, pulled line out though the drag was cranked down. It got off in the weeds and was left with a thrashed frog enmeshed in a basketball sized clump of weeds. i had a big smile on my face...
I'm gonna' get 'em this eve.

Thanks for the report 'spider. Been meaning to go there on my way to Green, I mean Clear Lake. I might hit it tomorrow...
Hey, did you see bluegills? I've been having a ball using a #6 flyrod and poppers at L. Mendo but the PBs are too many now.

Hey Sean, fellow 'yakers, I saw you guys out there this morning. I was in the North River jetboat. What a flotilla!
We ended up in front of Barn's Cove, lots of BIG boils, caught them on many types of lures, (Zooms still rule!). I even tried a buzzbait, to no avail. There's always tomorrow...
Nice smallie too! Good pic.
The bass were biting later in the channel. Saw shad everywhere but I don't know 'bout the stripers in the channel.
Fish on!

As usual Sean, good pics and report. I headed to Clear lake and only caught 3 crappie and had two blowups on a frog.
Fish on!

Hit Rodman Slough in the prams at about 4 PM. No fish for about 3 hours, then on the row back, they turned on. I got a 5.3 on a spinnerbait and a 4.5 on a frog. I also got 5 others on the plastic frog in the weedmats. Great fun! All this at sunset till dark. The magic hour...
Chasing shad tomorrow.
Keep on fishin'.

Hey Mickfish! Nice smallie pics, I appreciate them. I'd always heard of them in the Russian, but never actually saw one. Where's this at? Do you know of some decent drifts?
I fished the Russian on foot yesterday, the 'yak never made it off the truck. I fished for shad at Healdsburg, Guerneville, and Monte Rio. Not red hot but I did hook fish at each place.

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Re: Bendo at Mendo II Scheduled
« on: May 17, 2006, 03:17:25 PM »
Juando will be at Mendo.
Bring your best aprons.
Conserve your energy, fish from a beached 'yak.
Maybe I'll have a new boat by then.
It'll be good to see all the rookies again  :smt002
I take my last final tonight and I'm fishing tomorrow...

Gordon,

Which Hobie you got? The Quest?
Also interested in the Tourney but my 'yak is a sit-inside and I can't live-well my fish.
Can I fish the tourney in a pram that I row?
I'll check the link next.
Juan
