Thanks for the confirmation guys. I'll try your suggestions to remove the cord from the hook.

General Talk / Hobie Bungie/Shock cord Hook Resuable?
« on: July 25, 2023, 06:11:21 PM »
Looking to replace tankwell bungie/shock cord on my hobie.  Does anyone know if the shock cord hook is reusable? Or is it better to buy new.

General Talk / Re: Cheap kayak sale websites that are actually scams
« on: April 22, 2023, 03:54:51 PM »
Guy's,
I'm retired now but when i was in Tech I worked for mostly security companies. One way to tell if a site is a scam for sure is when you look at your browser title up where it makes the connection look to see if it says https:// in the header if it does it's a secure site and they have to have the DNS credentials on file. If it simply say http: then it's not legit, the S is the key indicating it's a secured site.
Yes, pay close attention on http sites.  Definitely don't put any personal info in there. On the flip side, https doesn't necessarily  mean it's a legitimate site. It's too easy for scammers to get a certificate to put up a https site, these days.

Safety First / Re: iPhone 14 Satellite SOS
« on: September 19, 2022, 06:18:01 PM »
Damn life gets complicated! Now you even have to choose how you send out a distress signal?

I thought if you drop a 13 they give you a 13, not upgrade to next generation? Im paying for complete insurance in case I drop it out at sewers or wherever Don’t imagine that Where’s my iPhone works underwater

Also I have mine mainly for the camera and the new ones are claiming bigtime upgrade But that’s their MO with every new phone
I've read that 13 has the satellite hardware, just not enabled. Perhaps once they sell enough 14s, they'd consider enabling for 13.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / PLB Alternative - IPHONE 14

iPhone 14 is rumored to have satelite capability. May be an alternative for PLBs. Take that with a grain of salt as it looks like there are hurdles to still overcome.....

General Talk / Re: Youtube videos stopped showing up?
« on: August 17, 2022, 07:28:11 PM »
That much I do understand, also that certs cost $$.  Reason I think it's browser specific is sort of hard to explain, but defaults in how they respond to the connection of a site can vary as well as what things they consider to be safe.  Chrome is notoriously picky about certs, so I use FireFox most of the time.  Server configuration could also be a reason for defaulting to http vs https as well, I'm just too lazy to look it up.

Likely the issue has to do with Mixed Content, i.e. an https page having resources (photos, videos, links) loaded via http. Many browers have started blocking such insecurely loaded resources.
You can read more about it at: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Security/Mixed_content

I have same issue on my Samsung galaxy Chrome browser. Though, it only happens for some videos, not all.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak Salmon Fishing 101 ?
« on: May 12, 2022, 12:43:47 PM »
3 hours is worth it.

+1. Had a great trip with Eric at Shelter Cove last year. Many firsts for me ...1st time fishing for salmon, limit, 22lb monster. Results may not be same, but the wealth of info Eric gives is well worth it.

Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Shark Shield voltage meter mod

Awesome mod. Very ingenious.

My shark shield is newer version so doesn't have this issue. I've followed your and Nowhere man's battery mod,  another great mod. I'll definitely be referring back to that once the battery on mine craps out.

If you haven't read in other threads, there's also new gear requirements for traps.

CA Regulations / Re: Crab trap regulation change

Would adding a flag to the main bouy that meets the dimension and labeling requirements be legal? Similar to https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01BZMELXI/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_V4SREZC18J1RYHVP5KDV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.
Don't read anything in the regs that indicates it's not allowed.

Wow. Congrats on the monster. Another great adventure.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Which Fish Finder?
« on: August 24, 2021, 05:41:29 PM »
5: Don’t rush your purchase. You can kayak and fish just fine without a fishfinder at first. Yeah, you won’t know what’s going on below you, but you can spend that time getting comfortable in the new yak and not staring at a FF screen.
The Navionics Boating App could be a cheap temporary solution in the meantime.

Class act without a doubt. I was fortunate enough to go on a trip with him a few weeks back and experience his awesomeness. One of the best fishing trips I've ever had.
