With conditions looking rough, anyone recommend any coastal spots for Sunday? I’m looking at Albion and Fort Ross. Gonna cliff fish if we pull up and it looks bad that morning.

Hey everyone, I got a new Okuma Cold Water reel with a short Trevala rod to take out on the kayak. My other set up (similar rod and reel) I am using 50lb braid with a 30lb mono leader. What are you all using? What’s best for rock fishing?

Fish Talk / Petrale Sole on Sonoma Coast?

Hey everyone, I’m looking to catch some Petrale sole out on the Sonoma Coast. Not asking for spots, just if they are generally here. I hear people saying look for sandy bottoms over 100’ deep. Anyone catching them out of Bodega?

General Talk / Just got a Hobie Mirage Compass

Hey guys, I’m new to the peddle kayak world and the Hobie world. What kind of adds on and accessories to I “need” to get? So far I’m looking at a fish finder and connector arm (duh), those jet fins, and a crate.

Also, I need to find a way to cammo it up for some duck hunting and was looking at yak gear’s kayak blind since I have the “papaya” color yak.

Any suggestions?

General Fishing Tips / Sonoma Creek with kids

Hey all,

I’m heading to Sonoma Creek, near the bridge on 37, with the kids. Hoping to catch some stripers with anchovies, shad, or lures. Also bringing the kids hoping they might catch some bait fish or something small off of night crawlers.

What have you all caught there? Just looking for tips to up the odds my kids can catch fish there so they’ll want to stay longer.

General Talk / Veteran Fishing Group Update

Hey everyone, it's been a few months. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was able to donate rods, reels, lures, money, etc. to get my veteran fishing group off the ground! So far, we have met at Doran, Fort Baker, and Paradise Pier. It's been sop rewarding to see my fellow vets find some peace by casting a line in the water.

I would love to post pictures of us fishing and crab snaring, but I can't due to HIPAA (privacy) regulations. Just know that you have made a huge impact in the lives of others.

Wanted To Buy / Wanted: old fishing gear for veterans

Hey everyone,

I run a mental health clinic in Sonoma County for veterans. I am in the process of starting a fishing group and am in need of rods, reels and tackle. We will be doing surf casting and fresh water fishing for bass and trout.

What I'd like from those willing is your old gear that is still serviceable or can be made serviceable with a little work. I'm not shy about greasing and oiling up old reels. Please reply with anything you can offer. My coworkers and I can come to you or you can bring it by our office. PM me for details and address.

General Fishing Tips / Crab pots

What kind of pots are you all using? I bourbon myself a small metal cheese wheel shaped one. Affixed a couple pieces of an old broom handle in two scupper holes to set it on so it stays aboard. I’m tempted to get the collapsible net ones so i can put out more than one trap each time.

Thoughts?

Looking for a moderately priced fish finder mostly for depth. Not too worried about anything super flashy. I've looked at the Deeper Pro that pairs with my phone. Amy good or should I be looking at something else? I am riding in a Malibu Pro 2 Tandem.

Introductions / New guy from Petaluma

Hey everyone,

I'm new to kayak fishing. I've been free diving off it for awhile now, but getting back into it and brand new to fishing off it. I have a Malibu Pro Tandem 2 and have been known to paddle it by myself. Took it off the Doran Beach Jetty last weekend with my new crab pot and managed to get a few keeper rock crab but no dungies.

Looking forward to meeting some of you out there in the wild!
