Just FYI guys.  I wasn't aware of the closure until I saw a post on a fishing forum. Just passing it along.

General Talk / Boccacio strong odor
« on: September 18, 2022, 11:42:19 AM »
Recently we are fishing deeper, in 200 feet range out of Monterey Bay.  I caught some boccacio and notice they have a strong fishy odor.  It's on the stringer and to the ice chest when landed, but the odor from these fish is pretty strong.  Is there a special way to handle these fish?  Should I bleed and gut them on the spot?

CA Regulations / Disposal of an inflatable boat
« on: June 06, 2022, 09:21:47 AM »
Is there a place to properly dispose of an inflatable boat?  I bought an Intex Mariner 4 about 2 years ago and it's leaking air.  I have to registered it with the DMV because I put a trolling motor on it.  How to I properly dispose and un-register this thing?

CA Regulations / Can you rock fish and crab snare at the same time?
« on: December 17, 2021, 07:36:48 PM »
Does the crab snare on a rod considered a rod or a trap?  I know you can't use more than 1 rod for rock fish.  Since the method of take for rock fish is with a hook, and a snare is not a hook, but there's a rod component to it.

CA Regulations / Daisy chaining crab snares
« on: November 18, 2021, 05:48:14 AM »
Anyone knows if it's legal to daisy chain snares.  I'll going to try snaring off a kayak.  If it's allowed, I'm thinking 2 snares per line, just to try something different.

CA Regulations / Crabbing with a buddy
« on: October 17, 2021, 08:54:18 PM »
I have a friend who have a long and narrow sit-in kayak and wants to go crabbing with me.  With such narrow kayak, he does not carry any traps of his own or bucket to hold the catch.  He will help with sorting crabs and place it onto the bucket on my yak.  In this situation, is it legal to have a 2 person limit since all the crabs are on my yak?  We have been crabbing for rock crabs and kept a one person limit and divide among us, as I'm not sure if we can keep a 2 person limits.

Can I deploy crab hoop nets to catch rock crab during Dungeness off season?  I understand that I have to release any Dungeness bycatch.

I saw Die Hard catching eels to target lingcods.  I thought to myself, why not make an eel fly pattern.  Here's a link of it in action.

I have these collapsible Promar traps that feels pretty light weight.  How much weight do I need to put on it for it to stick to the bott0m?  Assuming a calm day and around 40 to 60 feet of water out in HMB.

General Fishing Tips / Help with fishing for sand dabs out of HMB
« on: October 21, 2020, 07:40:58 PM »
My kids love to eat pan fried sand dabs.  So, this coming Sunday, I'll try to catch some.  How deep are they?  I hope I don't have to go beyond the red buoy.  I never intentionally try to catch them before, so any help is appreciated.
