Check out this great film of The Berry filmed this month. Stumbled onto it reading the Lake Berryessa News.

Don't look now but we have good rain expected through Monday.

Enough rain to get some inflows into our lakes and reservoirs. And enough to drop the fire danger way down across NorCal forests and range land.

Not nearly enough to end the drought, however, but significant none the less.

Hope it happens!

Caught the bug awhile back. Enjoy the Nevada and Arizona deserts. No earth-shattering finds yet. Primarily gold nugget shooting and meteorites.

Tesoro Lobo Super Traq.

Would like to do a Rye Patch fishing/gold trip this spring. I have been to Majuba a few times and fished Rye Patch once. Would like to get the kayak over there and try for walleye and wipers. Walker/Pyramid fishing/prospecting trips might be interesting as well.

Went to the Franconia meteorite area in Arizona last fall on a road trip to Vegas. Interesting place, but I had issues with aggressive bees and wasn't able to put in much time there.

The Pinnacle Elite.      (info per web site).

15 ft. 9 in.
26 3/4 in.
weight 57-61 lbs.
Capacity 265 lbs.

Don't know how good they would be for NorCal waters, but that is one sharp looking machine!  :smt007   :smt008   :smt007

Couldn't figure out if it's South Africa, NZ or Australian made (I believe SA). Web site says they're looking for USA dealers.

Need to find a place to launch near the entrance to Putah and Pope creeks. I launched out of Chaparral Creek Resort (Putah Creek Resort) back in the winter of 2011 but it appears that place has now closed down. Too bad, it has a great boat ramp.

Is there any place to launch a kayak near/between those two bridges?

I would like to do a winter crappie hookup next week but access might be an issue.

Any ideas?

General Fishing Tips / Amazing advances in fishing technology

This may be old news to some folks but I am completely blown away by the Minn Kota i-Pilot feature on some of their higher-end trolling motors.

The ability to press a button on a remote and have an "electronic anchor" that will keep you on your hotspot out in the middle of a lake, river or ocean. This GPS based "spot lock" feature is just slick as hell. Fights the current, wind etc. to automatically keep you on top of that spot.

How many times have you thrown a marker, anchor etc. too late and missed that honey hole?

The i-Pilot also allows you to make trolling tracks up to 2 miles long. And adjust your trolling speed down to 1/10th of a mph. You simply mark the start and end points and the boat will follow your near exact previous trolling pass over and over, back and forth.

This unit will also guide you home if you simply point the trolling motor to where you want to go. It will plot a near exact course to that place you want to be. Great for an emergency.

They have two varieties of the i-Pilot. One is just the handheld remote with GPS/trolling motor. The other (i-Pilot Link) incorporates Hummingbird depth finder units to do many other features as well.

If I buy a fishing boat down the road, it will definitely have this onboard. Too bad they don't make smaller bow-mount units for kayaks...

Kayak Sailing / Any good AI wipeouts to tell?
« on: February 24, 2013, 01:36:11 PM »
I can't be the only one with stories to tell.

Folsom Lake - Windy day. Good sailing, bad fishing. Steered my rig into the ramp area and brought in the sail nicely. Had the 2011 version rudder clamped down so I got out of the boat while in the water (nearly 3 Ft.) and held onto it while trying to undo the rudder. Big gust of wind came up and my sail rope slipped out of the tie-down clamp. Sail flapping like crazy as it completely unwound. I'm in deep $#^! in a big hurry with no way to get to the sail rope as the boat begins to drag me. All I can do is hang onto the back aka with all my strength.  I'm simply unable to get inside the square of the extended akas to reach the ropes. The boat finally slows down when it hits a flooded bush and it buys me enough reverse force/pause to get my leg over and finally reach the sail rope to reel the sheet in. Could have been a runaway AI missile if the winds had been completely pointed offshore.

Make sure you REALLY clamp down those ropes!
