If you get the right farmer john it will have a zipper at the bottom.  :smt003

You gotta hit the head at least once in the morning...are you regular? If not I would suggest metamucil the night before.

Should metamucil be added to the checklist?

I agree with Bill - gotta have the zippered crotch. Just stradle the yak and pee into an empty gatorade bottle or directly to the scupper hole. Jdyak simply lies on his side and fires away  :smt002

I went to a survival seminar that was lectured by a 30 yr. Vet. of the Coast Guard that did  search & rescue missions in helicopters and this was his advice was.

Allways tell some one where your are going and when you will be back :secret never go out alone in (ocean/rough water).Have a flotation device, compass, water, extra paddle, signaling devices (whistle mirror flag) so you can be seen.

another good reason to be with others. easy to miss one kayak-er, hard not to spot three or four, right!.        power boats bad  :smt013

Dress warm, with us yackers we will usually have a farmer-john's on but if one was to go out a ways with just one other guy it might be a good idea to have a step-in wet suit top with you. He said the worst thing you can possible do is try to swim to shore and leave your boat. to be on top of a washed-out boat half way out of water is a lot better than being all the way in water.  :pale:  98 % of the time they find the boat. plus it's a lot easier to spot a boat than one little head bobbing in the water, :pupi there is a lot of water out there guy's.

Where most people go wrong is thinking the land is just right there, but it's a lot further than it looks and nothing burns energy like cold water, fear, and panicked swimming. most will never make it.  :angel12:  another good reason to go with some one ells why would you swim for land when your buddy's right there. :smt001

Now I know that some of this pertains more to motor boating because it is real easy to get way out there a long way's in a motor boat and who in a motor boat has a farmer-john on to keep them warm in these waters?

I thought it would be a real good idea to have one of those flares you shoot up in the air but from what he said there is so many people shooting them off any more for fun that they're kind of like a car alarm, someone will probale see it but they wont take it to seriously. :smt017 the best thing you can have is a water proof VHF radio, :smt023 not only do you get up to the minute weather reports and warnings but you can call for help right then. One other thing about going with some one that knows there way out there, they probable do most of this stuff without even thinking, me I have to have a list :evil5: That's one thing that seems really good about you guy's, you seem very OK with dragging us newbies along.  :smt002
