Recipes / Broiled Cod in Miso Sauce
« on: April 14, 2006, 07:59:59 AM »
We tried this first at our local Sushi joint. It was damn good there. then I saw the same dish on Martha Stewart. I saw it again on the Memoirs of a Geisha DVD and after that we knew we had to make it at home.

6 T white Miso
1/3 C sugar
1/4 C mirin
1/4 C sake
4-6 oz cod or bass fillets (Nobu uses Black cod but we used White Sea Bass which was damn fine!)

marinate fish then broil 3 mins per side

simple and VERY good.

My biggest salmon was about 25 pounds on a Fenwick glass rod rated 30 - 50 pounds. I usually use that rod for big tuna and Yellowtail and it was just WAY too much power for that salmon and wasn't that fun.

I want to go as light as possible but I'm thinking dragging around those lead balls could put a lot of stress on the rod. I'm thinking of using my Seeker Black Steel 8 ft rod which is a composite of glass & graphite. The glass should stand up to trolling stress and the length & graphite should make the fight a little more gamely. I just dint want to muck up that rod - its my favorite!

Those Taloras look pretty cool. Shimano's customer service is incredible. Those guys really know how to keep anglers happy! About the Taloras... are they glass or graphite? And... will pure graphite rods take the abuse of trolling cannonballs around year after year??

can you get those diving planes down to 80 - 100 ft??? I thought those things were for use in rivers. it seems like they might behave a bit eractic at that level.

Might be in the market for a new trolling rod for salmon. Im using a 7 ft Fenwick right now made of "Fenglass," lure weight 1 - 6 oz, line rating 30 - 50 pounds. It works great, just want to go as light as possible but without stressing the rod (I plan to use 2 - 2.5 cannonballs) and with good lure action.

Whats the lightest rod your using while trolling big cannonballs? Any problems?

thanks, Adam

How do you like the Tarpon 160? Im in the market for a new kayak. Ive got a Malibu Extreme. Its incredibly stable but a bit sluggish and slow when you take it offshore - the bottom is just too flat. Last spring I took it some 3 - 4 miles offshore out at Santa Cruz to go after salmon and basically pooped out after the paddle. I want a kayak thats faster, longer, more sleek to go after salmon bites 3 mi plus offshore.

Im thinking about getting the Tarpon 160 or possibly something like the Capehorn 170.

Have you ever thought about rigging a sit in inside touring kayak for salmon fishing? How fast is that Tarpon 160???

By the way, love that Outback. Thats my dream car.

Im constantly reliving my most memorable fishing moments. If you can visualize everything going right in your head, then your more likely not to muck it up. Its all about being ready. Think about what it wouldve been like if you lost it.

I lost a HUGE 60 plus pound WSB this summer and have been haunted by that ever since.

BEAUTIFUL fish. Man, a fish like that could supply enough Adrenaline to power the entire city for weeks.

Congrats.
