Hobie Kayaks / Pedal Kayak Shoot Out. Hobie Vs Native Vs Jackson
« on: July 28, 2018, 04:15:41 PM »
Me and some of the guys from the shop had fun comparing pedal drives. We had a Hobie PA 14, Jackson Coosa FD, and the Native Titan 12 and we took them all to our demo facility at Lodi Lake for a test. Watch out video here.

It seems like more and more folks are getting into using pedal kayaks for fishing and exploring, so we thought it would be fun to get a crew of us together for a pedal drive only trip. We can compare boats, swap stories, and check out each others rigs.

We are meeting at the Lodi Lake Boathouse at 10:45 and launching around 11. We will pedal up for a few miles and find a beach where we can swap out and try boats if folks feel like sharing.

This is a free community event, but if you would like to rent a pedal drive please call Headwaters Kayak Shop asap as demos are limited. 209-224-8367

Bring Snacks and Drinks and we can stop on a beach half way and chill. Rods are welcome, but I can't promise any great fishing in early February.

Boat House at Lodi Lake is located at 1301 W Turner Rd. Lodi Ca 95242.

For Sale / Beach Cart Group Buy! $160 per cart. Last Day to Order Oct 7th.
« on: September 29, 2017, 11:57:35 AM »
Hey guys. It's been awhile since I did a Beach Cart Group Buy. We use to do it once a year with Wheeleez, but they became so difficult to work with that I decided to stop doing it. About two years ago we have swapped all of our carts over to Suspendz and we have been begging them to do a beach cart. They make some of the stoutest carts in business. We've sold several hundred and have yet to have a single warranty.

This past week my Rep (Ethan Ebersold from Eddyline Kayaks) came by and showed me the new cart, and its awesome. Heavy duty rubber pads, powder coasted frame, and it comes with a low pressure pump! I told him how we use to do group buys and he was super keen to put something together and make a positive impact with NCKA.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here is the deal. When we get 15 guys together for a group buy we are going to offer the new Suspendz Beach Cart for $160

Deluxe Cart has the 12" by 7" ballon wheels and is 18" wide with a capacity of 150lbs. Retail: $189 NCKA PRICE: $160

To place your order please call the shop at 209-224-8367 and mention the NCKA Group buy. Free local pickup, or delivery to Crabfest, otherwise shipping will be an additional $25

As always thanks NCKA for the support.  :smt006

This week I made my way up to Klamath Falls to drop off some boats to The Ledge. While I was there I hooked up with local kayak fishing guru Dean Limb from the Feelfree Kayaks Fishing team. He invited me to come along on a paddle at Rocky Point Recreation Area on Upper Klamath Lake. The water was crystal Clear and there were 10lb Red Band Trout swimming everywhere. Dean Fished for these trout like we should fish for bass here in the Delta. Casting towards shore and popping a spoon during the retrieve. With the mid day sun high in the sky, the Red Band bite was just not happening so he decided to take me for a paddle up one of the spring fed creeks. Much to our surprise there were dozens of Kokanee spawning feet away from the spring. Usually the spawning Kokanee are not really interested in eating. They have other things on their mind, but in just a few short minutes Dean hooked into a 17" female. In the next few cast he hooked up with a 19+" male! It was an incredible fish for sure. The wild part is you would not expect to see this many Kokanee in a lake that is only 8-10' deep. Upper Klamath is more of a marsh than a reservoir, but despite this the Kokanee where there in good numbers. It was a blast, and a place I can't wait to get back to!

Native Watercraft / Native Titan bigger than a PA?!
« on: February 09, 2017, 06:28:43 PM »
First off it's not a kayak. As one who has always wanted to put the kayak back in kayak fishing, this goes against my core beliefs. With that said the market has spoken as shown, by the wild success of the Hobie Pro Angler models, that they want bigger badder more stable pedal boats. This is Natives answer for that. Happy to see someone stepping up to give Hobie some competition in this category. What do you guys think?

Eddyline / New Eddyline Video from Nor Cal now up.
« on: August 31, 2016, 01:25:48 PM »
Eddyline Kayaks came out and shot with the Headwaters Fishing Team here in the Spring and the video for the Caribbean 12 and 14' just came out. We are all pretty stoked to be apart of it and highlight some of our beautiful fisheries. I wish the fish could have cooperated during the shoot, but you cant win them all. The footage still came out awesome.

FeelFree / Feelfre's Overdrive Pedal drive/ Motor Drive
« on: July 20, 2016, 11:55:22 AM »
One of the most unique things things to come out of Icast was not a new boat. It was the fact that you an turn your existing boat into a pedal drive with the option of a motor all in one unit. The time that must have gone into this design is mind blowing. All in all it came out really clean. Feelfree brought a prototype drive to the show with mostly 3d printed parts, but the core idea of how its all going to fit is dialed in. Check out my interview with Feelfree's head engineer Peter Murphy.

Here is a video they posted to Facebook this AM of the motor drive in action.

FeelFree / Feelfree's new Offshore Kayak the Dagon
« on: July 20, 2016, 11:40:24 AM »
I was lucky enough to go to Icast last week and check out all the new stuff. One boat that got me excited was the new Feelfree Dagon. It's their new "offshore" model. This was still a prototype shown and we talked about a few tweaks that need to be made, but all in all the boat looks pretty sick. Excited to get my hands on one to test out.

Eddyline / Eddyline Kayak Fishing Video from the CA Delta
« on: July 08, 2016, 12:57:11 PM »
This was a teaser video that they just put out today. They shot it here in Lodi and at a few locations on the delta. It's the first teaser of a video series they have coming out about their fishing kayaks. So stoked that the Headwaters Fishing Team was able to host them and show off our area.

Eddyline / Video shoot with Eddyline Kayaks here in the Delta.
« on: April 27, 2016, 10:50:19 AM »
A bunch of us from the Headwaters Fishing Team were invited to film for the new C-135 product commercial and a Eddyline Kayak Fishing lifestyle video last weekend. The owners of Eddyline came and spent the weekend here in Lodi with their film crew. We paddled, fished and filmed for three days on Lodi Lake and the Delta. It was a blast. Early mornings and late nights, with a few beers in between. Thanks Vwool, Gecko, Caddy Chris, Yester, and Bio Bill, for volunteering your weekend to make the project happen. Here are a few behind the scenes shots I snapped with my Iphone.
