Who wants to sponsor the old man in the kayak race between my scupper pro and the Raptor? The Raptor dude says he will crush me. HAH! He doesnt know my tenacity and super powers. :smt003 Now what I need is some very giving folks who will sponsor my quest to put some miles on the old girl and squash the rumor that I am over the hill. :smt006 Start at MBK at 8am sharp on the 25th. Paddle to the red can in front of the aquarium and back to the beach at MBK. All the money I can raise goes to PIF in the name of the old dudes who havent given up just yet. Take your depends and viagra and stuff it for now. I would like to raise at least 500.00. After all, I might have a heart attack and die, so come on whose in? Thanks, Craig :smt008 :smt006
-
Craig I wouldn't dare to bet against you :smt003 I can make a small 20.00 donation.
-
I've got $20 on you Craig!!!!!
:smt004
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim
-
I got 20 on ya! Only if you paddle my Tarpon 13Tandem! Now your racing a Porsche against a pickup truck! Wheres the fun in that? No offense baitman, just trying to level the playing field.
-
I got 20 on you as well Craig :smt006
Jedmo
-
I got two guys at work to sponsor 20.00 also. Thats 5. 20% of the goal met in less than 24 hours! Thanks guys. Keep it coming.
-
I'll sponsor both of you guys with $20 each if you add an "obstacle" as part of the race. When you reach the red can, you must bail into the water, and then do a reentry.
-Allen
-
Allen,,, that's just " evil " .
-

I'll up it to $40 on Craig with the new "obstacle"...
I think you guys need to wait until we radio you from the red can until you start...I need to be there filming this!!!!!!
:smt003 :smt005 :smt044 :smt044
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim
-
I'll kick in $20 to the cause!
You guys might contact AARP, they might be interested in sponsoring the event, or filming for a future TV add.
-
Film it from the red can, no cutting corners.
I'll go $20 each as well, with the mid-point cool-off included.
haha this will be fun
Allen
-
I'm down for 20 if it includes the dunking...got my water cannon ready
-
:smt005 I can't stop laughing at the fact people are willing to double it as long as you two go for a swim!!
-Sara
-
Ok Im down for the launch from the kayak. It has to be done while standing on the bow. Observers present in case the wind is 25 knots. I hope it is. :smt006 :smt003 Dont forget to say who your sponsorship is going to. I want to win that part as well. :smt007
-
Now wait a minute... He's already got an edge with a faster kayak... and now you want me to fill mine with seawater , knowing I'd have to pump it out... it's not a fair fight.. :smt010 :smt010 :smt010
What do the judges say ?
Can I cheat and use my Torqeedo ? :smt003 :smt003

Couldn't you just dive in and then self rescue back in and keep on paddling without filling it up with water?

What happened to these two comments?-- common now let's see what its got! (now i'm ribbing ya a bit...)
And last but not least... It would be great to test the capabilities of this boat. I havn't capsized it in the open ocean yet. Let's go do it... "DO IT NOW" ( arnold swarzzenegger voice , Predator movie )
I know it's a lot faster and easier to paddle than my Ocean Kayak Scupper pro... Equal to my wife's Wilderness 120 I think. At the paddlefest I was racing a guy in a Hobie with the Mirage Drive... Those pedal things are faster for sure, but I gained a lead turning around the bouy.
...and no, you can't use a torqueedo...
-
I may need to cut my vacation short just to see this! I got $20 on you Craig.
-
I'm not sponsoring either one of you.....but ill pay 20 bucks if I can hang at the red can and pummel you guys with waterballons and old frozen anchovies when you're doing the self rescue. What say you........?

Pussy! :smt006 :smt003
-
erh,,, ah, about that "a lot faster and easier to paddle than my Ocean Kayak Scupper pro..." comment... I was wrong, what I had was the Scrambler. I went on line and realized the Scupper Pro is 15 long' and 26" wide. "My Mistake" BUT, a deal is a deal...
So here's the deal. I'm not about to back out. I will capsize the boat anytime after the big " race " once I recover, ( two beers should do it ) In for a swim at the can, back in the boat , and complete the race like we originally agreed.
I spent today brewing a batch of Pale Ale today. Those that know me say I make the best ale they've ever tasted... Planning on bringing a 5 gallon keg to the party...
I need defensive blockers,,, free beer to anyone who runs interference for me ! :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
the one on the left is the OK Scrambler I sold both of those a short while ago.
-
This is AWESOME!!!!!
Really looking forward to seeing this AND STOKED about more $$ being brought in for the cause!!
You can't start at 8am though Craig...no way...we NEED to be at the Can to see this, so you guys HAVE to wait until we are out there and have had a few beverages and then call you up on the VHF!! :smt003
This is gonna be so f'ing cool!!!
Excited to see the raptor too!!!
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim
-
LOL Craig you're crazy---you need a different kind of sponsor ...like "Hi, my name is Craig and I'm addicted to yakfishing" :smt005
-
I got 20 on Craigers.
Baitman here is a tip...super glue a bunch of anchovies, sardines, and macks to the bottom/top of Craig's kayak and the seals will give you a bit of help
-
as an old guy, I gotta sponsor Ravensblack. But Baitman is an Aptos homie. So $20 bucks on home town pride and $20 for old guys :smt004
-
Of course I've got Craig for $20. Art, I think I can safely get 3 or 400 water balloons in my kayak in case anyone else needs one.....or a dozen. :laughing7: Craig, will you be wearing some waders for the dunking? :smt005
Baitman, so you thought your scrambler was a scupper huh? I'll buy that for a peso. :smt006
Glad to see you are being a good sport about continuing on with the race. Craig will need a nap before he can make it back so you'll have a chance to make a pass then. :smt003
What I really want to know is why these Ocean Kayak Pro-Staffer's are so intent on running this race in one of their 'old' design boats and not one of the newer ones like the T-15 or T-13? :smt077
-
For an extra 10 bucks can i arm myself and a "few" of my closest NCKA friends with super soakers?
btw: i'm "Betting" on PIF....
-

Art, I'll PAY YOU $20 to do that! :smt074
-Allen
10/4.......that makes it $40, and at that price I get to use a slingshot for the sun ripened chovies!!!!!
-
Linelle had a scrambler for awhile. Until the day at Tomales Bay coming back from the oyster nets on an outgoing. We were on our scuppers and waited for her at least 5 times. I sold it under duress 2 days later. Bought her a Prijon Calabria and I was back in again just like that. :smt008
Art, can you make that fresh dead squid? I plan on flylining 2 rods on the way back. :smt003
-
Another $20 on Craig, and OK.
-
OK now Jims had his fun. Lets move on. I would really like to present Big Jim and Porky and all those A- Hulls with a grand now. Is that too much to ask for? If that happens Art can throw anchovies at me at the turn. At the turn only though.............................now where in hell did I put that face shield? :smt003 Allen Im going to need you to super soak the anchovie paste off as I might get too close to the can. These guys look hungry at the turn!
-
I got 20.00 on craig
-
Oh man, is someone going to have to do CPR on Craig?..........eeeeewwwww
I got 20 on Craig, but no mouth to mouth.
-
I'll sponsor both of you guys with $20 each if you add an "obstacle" as part of the race. When you reach the red can, you must bail into the water, and then do a reentry.
-Allen
Actually self rescue, drink 5 shots of tequila, catch a legal ling, survive the water balloon and frozen chovy gauntlet and then paddle in. That would be a NCKA challenge. :smt044
-
Now wait a minute... He's already got an edge with a faster kayak... and now you want me to fill mine with seawater , knowing I'd have to pump it out... it's not a fair fight.. :smt010 :smt010 :smt010

I don't think it looks like bailing off and getting back in should require any pumping??

Yeah, I think I have $20 for each of you and Jim. And another $20 going to Art to throw anchovies at you, which he said he'll give to the pot as well. So sounds like I'm down for $60. -
I logged over 10 miles straight paddling on the petaluma river today. Half of that was on the 4.7 and the other half on my scupper pro dual hatch with a rudder. The 4.7 really gives you a nice work out. Plus the fact that after 5 miles on it when you get on the scupper and paddle you realize just how fast this kayak is. Just paddling today was great. No worries about fish, gear, all that. Just focusing on the paddle stroke and time. Breaking up styles to work different groups and really concentrating on the blade entry and exit. Fantastic to just stay focused and get in the zone. With both kayaks in use and the time it took to change boats and re-park I think I was actually paddling around 2.5 hours.
Claveys had their day on the river today so I stopped and shot the breeze for a bit. All in all I think I was on the water around 3.5 hours maybe a little bit more. Next outing it will be all about time, speed and distance. So next time I will have a more accurate report to give you about the session.
Thanks for sponsoring for this all of you. We just need a bit more to make the 1000.00 mark please help the guys. Thanks , Craig

VICTORY happens when hours and hours of TRAINING meets one moment of OPPORITUNITY.
-

No need to do all that strenuous work... Take it EASY :smt002
It's all in the name of a good cause... a win win race, just a side show to the main event. I'll even sponsor you Craig. Put me down for 40 bucks too, please. You're awesome dude, for making the effort.

Baitman, what was I supposed to do with that round thing with a string sticking out marked "M-80"?

I don't know.... Harvest fish ? :smt001
-
I want to start the race at 10:15am. I will need to rinse off hopefully so as not to attract too many seagulls and what not. :smt006 :smt003 We will paddle from the beach to the red can and back to the beach. Then we will cut across the bay to join the major contingent of kayaks between the red can and the yellow can. Please be mindful not to hurt anyone while throwing stuff. No water ballons and no saltwater douches :smt003 One piece of bait per person please. We will be armed also. :smt006 :smt005 :smt044
-
Craig,
In the event you don't win, will the money collected still go towards PIF.
I ask because I got a chance to paddle the Raptor this weekend with Ricky (Paddle and Flies). This boat has very little drag and moves pretty good across the water. I did find some issues I would like to discuss with Jim, but overall I like what I saw. I would not want to race myself in this boat. It will come down to endurance and paddle technique - but I know for sure with me paddling both crafts I would have to say the Raptor is the faster of the two.
Not trying to discurage as I am still rooting for team O.K.
Good luck.
See Ya There,
Eric / Yakhopper
-
The money sponsored is to be paid no matter what. If the Raptor can maintain 7 miles per hour for 3.5 miles more power to it Eric. The scupper pro has no equal on the water for SOT's except Terry on his T160. :smt006
-
I should rephrase that. The scupper pro has no equal on the water for a SOT fishing kayak. Racing hulls excluded. Terry on his T160 would blow me away.
-
I've always wanted to see what my very old WS Freedom could do.....
