A pretty fair place to catch Redtails from shore is at Stinky Beach. Park at the Elk River Road exit, walk out the trail and take the first left. As soon as you go over the railroad bridge turn right and go to the bay. Once you hit the bay fish left or right. Plenty of room. It's all nice and sandy.

Thanks for the clarification. I've heard of people doing that but thought it was a little sketchy.
It's only sketchy if it's high seas with no butter or lemon... :smt006

I hear that! :smt001

Is it legal to catch and cook crab out on your boat while you're crabbing?

Thank you all for your support.  I am doing somewhat better.  Everything is slow and painful, but onward and upward.  Unfortunately kayaking or fishing are not in the immediate future, making the season opener next year is kind of doubtful at the moment.  So yeah, slow and hoping to be steady.  Good news is I am walking now, but still cant beat grandpas or kids speed wise.  Goal is to have a joust match with a grandpa and come out a winner without falling  :smt044   Seriously though, thank you everybody for the well wishes.

I just saw this today and so glad you're making progress and wishing you a full recovery Victor. I also wanted to tell everybody to keep an eye out for PBs and do make an all out effort to get out of the way. It's a confrontation you can't win.

I was in north Humboldt Bay two years ago fishing the middle channel and I saw a PB heading up the middle of the channel right towards me. I started peddling my Outback towards the edge of the channel just to give him room. He turned towards me going full speed. The boat had a cabin on it and I couldn't see the operator. I decided to reel up and boogie out of the way. He kept turning into me until he ran right up on me before he shut down. Scared the hell out of me.

He steps out of the cabin and says "Fish&Wildlife, why are you running?" Why am I running? To get the hell out of the way. I thought you were trying to kill me, you dumb ass. He didn't believe me and he checked me out with a fine tooth comb. Opened up all my hatches looking for any thing he could find. He said I was free to go but not before I told him to have more respect and consideration for us kayakers.

So yes, you're right Victor. Protect yourself at all times because there are idiots all around us.

Steve Cooksey.

Good stuff Eric. I always enjoy your adventures and your attention to safety. People who fish with you are in good hands.

Great job Eric. I've been living thru your reports. Serious lack of fishing in my life right now

I wondered why I hadn't heard from you. I caught one this morning but it's been spotty.

Eric, I always enjoy your reports. You started me out on the right track at Trinidad and I'll always remember that.

I'm glad Dave had his stuff together and did things right. It may have saved his life. It's hard to read a sharks mind but I think they just enjoy a chew toy now and then.

Such a tragedy.  Condolences to the family.   :smt009

I posted up on Facebook about safety and resources (including this community of course).  I hope it wasn't too soon, but the importance of safety standards is too critical to skip it.

I hope that the next time we have a little community debate about pushing safety on other users we can keep in mind that our overall intention is prevention.  Being judgmental or obnoxious is one thing, but making sure we always speak up about safety is vital to this sport and to this community.  Thanks for understanding also that I feel much more obligated to speak up due to guiding and running a big event.  I'm not JUST an asshole!

Stay safe, everybody.

We get new people in this sport every day and there is more to ocean kayak fishing than just buying a kayak and a fishing pole. Keep preaching and setting a good example Eric. You influence more people than you will ever know.

Such a sad end to a gut wrenching story. Prayers for his family and friends.

Sounds like a great book! Might I suggest?:

Chapter 17. Help From Your Friends (how to drop your rod overboard and still land the salmon) :smt044

I think that was you on your youtube video? I don't remember for sure.

I own a Radmini electric bike. It's foldable 20" fat tire bike. I've had it about a year and a half and only put about 60 miles on it. I'm thinking of letting it go. I just don't use it. I thought I'd use it for hunting on Forest Service roads but I never have.
