Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Lake Shasta
« on: May 20, 2008, 09:14:05 AM »
I headed out to Shasta with my son, father in law and 5 other folks for a 4 day houseboat trip
on a way too small houseboat for 8 men. The weather was hot in the 100's and the water was in the low 60's. The bass fishing was good for quantity but not to good for quality and the trout fishing was fair. Ended up with well over a 100 bass and 6 trout between my son and I.
The others were fishing for trout. Seems the best trout fishing was in the morning. The bass you could catch 24hrs a day. This was the first time to Shasta for me and was not to impressed with the bass fishing. But the lake was quite beautiful. Heres a few pictures

I intended to go to the Delta on Friday but the plans had to change. So I went to Coyote with my son and my grandson. We got to the lake at 2:30 pm saw that it was muddy water but quite full and water is still coming in. So we went back in to the creek area and started hooking up. To make a long story short cause I am at work I got 4 bass between 3&4 lbs. My grandson with my help got 2 same size and my son got 2 one the same as the rest and one 5 to 6 lbs. range. We ran into a yaker named Dan or Dave I forgot and I gave him the in tel on the club. Also ran into Compa on the way out.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Sherman Island 10/26
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:55:18 AM »
Headed out to Sherman Island to look for striper's with Steve ( Shootswell ). Got in the water about 9:30 am after getting some fresh dead shad for bait thought we might bait fish a bit. We had a little wind and a out going tide to start with. At the opening from the lake to the river I had marked some fish so I dropped a shad there for about a half hour with no results. Got boring real quick. I like to cast a lipless crankbait thats my goto bait for striper's in the delta. So I told Steve where I was heading to and started paddling to this spot on the riverside of Sherman. On my second cast I got slammed It was a striper and it gave me a good battle but Steve had the big net and mine is under hood on the kayak. I did manage to get it in and measured 34in and 14lbs on my boga grip. After that the tide shifted I headed back with the tide to were we started. I ended up with 8 squawfish 3 striper's and 2 largemouth which the largest bass was 20in. I really need to get a new camera so I can get on the water pictures. The bass would have bettered my entry in the aoty. Here are some photos after I got home with a picture of my goto bait that caught all the fish for that day.

I figure its time to give Sherman Island a go. So Shootswell and I are going on Friday to test the waters. We will be launching at the Sherman Island ramp around 7ish. Company is always welcome. Will be monitoring channel 69.

Sorry about the late report. But here it is. I got to the lake and in the water about 10:00 am. So much for the early start. Not to many people fishing from boats. The ramp parking lot had four vehicles in it including mine. Anyway I ended up with 4 drop shot bass and 4 nail weight bass for the drop shot I used a basstrix minnow. For the nail weight setup a watermellon red flake zoom trick worm. About 2:00 pm the wind showed up so I called it quits not bad for four hours middle of August also the water vis was a good 12 feet very clear.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Capitola 6/30
« on: June 30, 2007, 08:26:13 PM »
My friend Steve and I went to capitola this morning and got a big skunk. We happend to run into john out there while fishing the kelp and he mention the rock fish were better farther out. So we follow his recommendation and head out but we happend to run into some white seabass these babies were 3 to 4 ft long with some shoulders did our best but no love. I threw all I had, plastics tubebait's, scampi's, fishtraps, and assorted swimbaits, crankbaits, and jigged some steel all for not. If you know how to get these guys they are there outside the kelp north of the pier by pleasure pt. Good luck

Kevin

Safety First / Why even try to be a nice guy
« on: May 13, 2007, 12:12:40 AM »
Here I am sitting at my computer about 12:00 friday night and all of a sudden WHAM and another WHAM. I get up and go outside cause I know one of our parked cars just got slamed. O.K. I go by my Tahoe and it seems to be alright and then I saw my sons girlfriend car a small mazda3 had been hit and the car that hit it. So I go to see if the person is alright and he's trying to start the car and leave. I look in the car to see if anyone else is in the car. Nobody else was in it. The guy a young kid early 20ies gets out and says dont call the police I dont have any insurance. I say without thinking its to late for that. Cause my son was on the line with 911. Ends up he did hit my Tahoe  anyhow. I ask him if he is alright then I ask him for his I.D. and he keeps on saying dont call the police repeadly. And then he sucker punches me to the left side of my head.  :smt013
And now we get into a fist fight. I am going to leave out most the details about the fight but I lasted about 5 minutes and this guy is taking on me and my son. It took a long time for the police to show up. My son could not do much cause he has a broken collar bone right now from a motorcycle accident 3 days prior. Just towards the end of this brawl he had me on my back and got a good hit to my head and my son went balistic he started kicking him in his ribs but the guy would not get off still. I grabed him by the head so he could not hit me very hard. I dont know how many of those I could take Iam not a young pup anymore. So I put my fingers into his eyes then he stoped tring to hit me and tried to get off. My son kicked him in the head and that dazed him for a while and he is still cusing me out from the ground. Then he gets up and runs away cause the cop were about a quarter mile away. He ended up giving up to the police the only smart thing he did that night. The kid was drunk and on drugs is what the police said. I always thought you are suppose to go to the aid of others and help. But I dont think I will do that in a case like this again. If I dont know the person F them. Heres my problem. I am a diabetic type II. Now both my feet are all bandage up cause in this fight most of the skin from my toes and the ball of my feet got peeled off and I have a broken cheek bone on top of that. It will take months to get my feet back in shape again if I dont get an infection. People that are diabetic at some point could have problems with blood cerculation at the lower extremeties and the eyes. I already have problems with my feet. So becareful when you go to help people you dont know.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Coyote lake
« on: May 01, 2007, 06:59:25 AM »
Went Sunday to the lake with a bag of floating worms and a Huddleston swim bait. I dragged the swim bait for 8 hour without a bite on it while I was pulling that around I was casting the floating worm with a nail weight and ended up with 10 large mouth bass from 1/2 to 2 pounds. Still a nice day on the water. The lake is still really low and the scuttle butt is they are not going to fill it up this year.

Went Friday to Steamboat to check out the striper action. Hogsback ramp is about 15-20 min. above Sherman Island ramp. off Hwy. 160 north side is the Sacramento river. I took a dozen minnows to drift the outgoing tide but I know there is also a good bass area just outside the opening of the launch. So I started off with a smoke purple 6 in Senko wacky rigged and right off the bat first cast got a large mouth about 1.5/2.0 lb. I caught 6 bass drifting the out going tide in this area. I was having such a good time in this area that I did not get a minnow out to drift for what I came for Striper's. When I got to Snug Harbor I crossed the river and got a minnow out and fished the boat docks for whatever wanted a minnow. I had lots of minnows that got chewed up and mangled by short bites. They were not hammering the bait I ended up with one 19 in striper and a bunch of chewed up minnows. So I had four left and the tide was up so I headed back for the bass area. I ended up with 7 more bass the largest being a 2.5lb small mouth caught with the minnow. Total for the day 13 bass 3 were small mouth and 1 striper. The ramp cost 4.00 to launch. There is also a large park for a picnic with BBQ's. Easy access for kayak fishing.
