Craftsmen's Corner / Golf Cart to Beach Cart Project
« on: August 30, 2019, 04:55:01 PM »
For elderly yakers and young yakers who want to make beach life easier. :smt001 :smt001 :smt001

When you get to a certain age, pulling a loaded AI or any yak for that matter, becomes a big and tiring chore.
But I want to keep yaking so I have to think of ways to make life easier. To do so, I would do several trips to lighten the AI so the wheels don’t get buried in the sand. Bring the AMA’s first, then the motor, the pull the AI with the AKA’s and other stuff in it but still the wheelez gets buried in the sand which makes it so hard to pull and makes you breathe so hard :smt044.
To lessen the trip, I have also brought my wife to come along with me and she has helped me a lot by carrying some of the stuff but I do feel guilty having her work that hard especially when I don't bring in any catch.

Now, here’s what I came up with and the wife is very happy with it. I'll try to have her pull it and see if it lightens her load. Just kidding!!!!

Here it is fully loaded with the AKA's and other stuff.
If no outboard, then you can load your AMA's too but you have to use longer pins on the end of 2x4 motor mount or just secure them with bungee cords or rope.

Now the 2x4 outboard mount seats securely to the top golf bag holder mount and easily removable.

The golf cart folds to half its extended length which is a plus for me because everything gets loaded to a Prius.
Cost: $7. Where: Goodwill. Cheapo me.

Hope somebody makes a use of this idea or triggers another idea. For testing this Monday at Rockaway.
Enjoy!

General Talk / Oil Additive/Metal Treatment (Polytron)
« on: September 29, 2017, 08:36:35 PM »
Highly recommended.

It was demonstrated to a bunch of us live as shown in the attached youtube video.

Was skeptic at first but all I have to lose is $26.50 so I went for it in lieu of the advantages. Two days after use, very noticeable difference in engine performance of my '07 Prius: already quiet before, now even more quieter; in hill climbing, very audible change in rpm before and now, it's gone; gas mileage improved as well. Oil change before at 10K mi, will now go to 20K on the 5W-30 Mobil 1 pure Synthetic oil.

If anybody will be interested, I will post where to get them locally.

Craftsmen's Corner / Who's Good In Electronics?
« on: August 31, 2017, 11:20:27 AM »
I have several of these (10W LED's) I can spare for the brotherhood.

And if you're good in electronics, you can design for us a 12V supply and regulate the current from 250mA to 500mA or even 1A but we want our 12V DC battery to last long.

It can come in combinations: RGBW (Red, Green, Blue and White). Or just RED, GREEN or WHITE.

And if you need something else, let me know and I'll see what I can come up with.

General Talk / Ciguatera Fish Poisoning
« on: July 06, 2015, 03:51:06 PM »
Does anybody in our forum have any experience and treatment information on Ciguatera Fish Poisoning?

Two very good friends of mine just came from Maui last Friday and brought home a 33 lb barracuda freshly caught by their local spearfishing friend along with other well known Hawaiian fishes. Cooked the cuda well and enjoyed it so much only to be affected by Ciguatera Fish Poisoning the following day. Did not know it right away but after reading about the barracuda/Ciguatera toxin and its poisoning symptoms, we have to conclude that it was Ciguatera Fish Poisoning.

Internet inputs are not very favorable as:
1. No effective treatment or antidote.
2. The symptoms can last from weeks to years and in extreme cases as long as 20 years, often leading to long term disability.

What's currently being done?
1. Enema.
2. Drink tea.
3. Avoid salt, seafood and alcohol.
4. Eat sugary foods.
5. Avoid nuts, seeds, fish, fish containing products, chicken/eggs, fumes from bleaches or other chemicals.
6. Maintain hydration.
7. Trash all the remaining cuda meats.

Spoke to them last night and they are doing a bit better but feels very very weak. Going to see them again tonite hopefully with other suggestions and encouraging inputs.

Advance thanks.

Danny

Novofish, this is in your neck of the woods so wondering if you and other brothers can join me.

Needing encouragements.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Netting Tips for Big Fish/Hogs
« on: July 29, 2014, 09:26:26 AM »
Hello Brothers!

With the advent of these recent Marin catches of some real big salmon i.e hogs, I have accumulated some tips mostly from CS (because they have gone out more and lost more) and from my recent trips regarding how to land/net these hogs. I am not an expert at it which is why I needed the information. Do feel free to share your experiences so we all can be enriched with ours. Some tips are from boat views, so you need to readjust to suit.

Netting Tips for Slugs:
1.   Net only when fish is ready. Signs: Belly up or on its side.
2.   Net only when fish is close to side of the boat. But don’t bring fish to the boat until it’s time to net. Different story if there’s sea lion.
3.   Do not overextend to reach the fish.
4.   Have the option to pull the net back/withdraw net. Do not force the netting. Do it only when fish is ready.
5.   Set the drag and don’t readjust when fighting the fish. If fish pulls line, let it but keep line tight all the time. Never readjust drag and if you need to, limit it to 1/8th inch move – Lico. It may seem easy to pull out because the fish is already applying pressure to the line so it may seem loose.
6.   The first and most important rule is to bring the fish to the net nose first, head up.
7.   I have tried to keep the boat in gear longer, keep the fish away from the boat longer and get the fish more tired out before bringing the fish closer to the boat.
8.   Slow turn and circle the fish, don't be in a hurry and put a lot of pressure on the fish, once he starts getting tired swimming and you can reel in to the boat have the net sitting handy on the gunnel, the leader can't be too long as what you'll do once the fish almost rolls on his side is get the leader tight to the pole tip and by holding up the rod tip up high you use the free hand to dip the net on the fish, if he swims away pulling slack put the net down and go back to reeling in the slack till it's at the tip and try to net him again, don't hurry the fish, once in the net go ahead and set the rod down and of course either go vertical with the net handle or I prefer to just slide it back to close up the belly and leave the fish in the water and grab the fish billy and give him a couple thumps. The weight of the net handle actually balances the hoop part of the net and its easy to control it. Works for me. Real slugs (only had #15's Monday) might be more challenging and looking forward to that.
9.   First thing is stay away from fleet and sea lions. You are solo so:
You must play the salmon while keeping it way away from boat.
I repeat don’t bring it to the boat till it’s time to net.
Get net ready.
What seems to work for me solo is that I added extension to my net handle so
when I’m ready to net I lay net on gunnel and pull salmon to net and
when I push down on end of net handle it raises net to net salmon.
10.   Never try to net a green fish. Keep it away from the boat until it's all but given up.
11.   Set the rear hook 1 1/2" behind tail of chovie. Choked herring setup?

Are there anybody in the brotherhood with guess passes that we can use? Open to deals.

Thanks and so sorry for the late notice.

General Talk / Looking for Cyclists
« on: November 22, 2013, 09:32:29 AM »
Beginning to have additional love: cycling, although kayaking is still #1. But I think us 3 can live together without any issues.  :smt002
Just completed the 50 mile Coyote Creek classic at Bernal, San Jose about 6 weeks ago. Almost died. Not enough practice.

Would love to do practice rides in groups so if there are cyclists around, we can join together.

I have an old 2002 model KESTREL Talon road bike which I just recently got from Craigslist after the 50 mi. classic that I joined. Very happy with it.

Planning more rides in the future. Now looking at the 100 mi. Sea Otter Classic in Monterey on April 12, 2014

Would love to have company.

Meeting at Bayside Marine at 6am and parking/launching on the other side of harbor. CH11

Saw your previous hookup "HereFishyFishy" so we'll try to look for you there.
