Shelter cove 80 ish FOW on an anchovy. Caught with several other types of flatfish such at Petrale Sole and undersized CA halibut. Same area I got a good CA halibut in the past.

I was thinking sand sole?

Follow up question, for CA halibut one easy ID is the high arch in their lateral line near the head. Do other flatfish species have that? I was unsure on an ID on one fish caught, but due to the high arch I believed it to be a CA halibut.

All fish were released FWIW.

Can't tell from the pic but did it had the long dorsal fins on the begining?

That’s what most of my ID after the fact was based upon. Here’s a zoomed in pic...

+1 sand sole.  The mottling, lateral line w/out arch, and dorsal free rays clinch it. They're tasty!  Caught one in Bodega a few years ago.

The one you caught has an interesting second eye location, like it never fully migrated topside.
