Craftsmen's Corner / Sturgeon fishing Hobie Rod holder.
« on: April 07, 2013, 07:13:28 AM »
It sucked trying to hold the rod all day when Sturgeon fishing, I tried Scotty mounts, could'nt get the rod out fast enough.
I needed the swiveling 'Vee' type balance holder right in front of me.  took awhile to figure it all out , But I think I have found it.

So what do you make out of a piece of 1" PVC, a broom stick and some old confrence room alluminium name plates...?

I kept trying to find the right spot to get the holder right infront of me, I thought about mounting it to the hatch... naw, to close, how about on the shelf in front of the hatch.. still to close. maybe bend it to go up over the mirage drive peddles..

the it hit me , mount it to the drive it self. ... but how?  drill some holes? no. that could make it weak.

then it hit me again...

and I had to cut the pipe like this.

Perfection !

its right in front, and the perfect distance with how I run the peddles set as far away as possable.

then i focused on making the  'Vee"   I took one of the aluminum name plates and cut it down with some fancy hand held bandsaw cutting.  Cut down a piece of broom handle ( had to tape it to make it fit tight but still spin. )  cut a slot in one end to fit the Vee. did some drilling a taping and got the Vee mounted in the stick.

I think this will work out nice.. its right in front. The butt of the rod swivels right over my legs, and I can drop the anchor and still peddle with it in place for a sleigh ride

i'm going to take a pipe cutter with me the first time out, if it's too high, a quick spin on the cutter is all it takes.

Craftsmen's Corner / Re-Worked the FishFinder
« on: April 07, 2013, 06:46:37 AM »
I got tired of having the heavy battery up high on the ram mount.
Plus the red waterproof box was always hitting my leg when peddling.

I like the FF completley removable. so I had to figure out a way to wrap up the transducer wire.
So I came up with a box bettween the FF mount and the ram mount.

I copied Riders set up with the battery in the box velcro'ed in the front hatch.  Then when pulled all that's in the yak is a short piece of connector wire and the ball mount.

General Talk / I've got a million dollar Idea....

DVR for the Radio !  :smt002

D.A.R.  Digital Audio Recording... How many times has your buddy interupted you with his snoring on the ride home from a fishing trip and you missed the traffic report? Or you wanted to keep rocking out to ACDC?
Wouldnt it be nice to hit the rewind ??
Or some sappy song from your childhood that makes you cry come on, and you dont want your wife to see....She'll start asking all kinds of questions to get intouch with your "feelings" and you just want to concentrate on how to attach the transducer in the new yak??  Wouldnt it be nice to Fast Forward??

Thats it... my million dollar Idea...

Got a FJ suit , shirt and Splash jacket along with this as early B-day present.  ( thanks Love ! )
