I will be camping in Big Sur this weekend with my Wife (yaker, but a non-fisherperson) and another couple.  If we can get away for a while, us guys would like to do some surf/shore fishing up there.  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on where to go and what to use.  Are rockfish possible from the shore?  I will be camping at Fernwood Campground not far from the other Big Sur campgrounds.  Any help would be great.  Not bringing the yak this trip :sad10:.  I hear kayaking and fishing there is awesome.

Thanks,

Mike

Went out for the first time in my newly renovated sit in kayak.  Installed all the goodies.  Thanks for everyone who uses this site, I was able to get a lot of useful information, every bit helped.

Hit the water at 7am, very low tide.  Caught plenty of bait along the pier.  First time using a sabiki rig, it worked like a charm.  Built a bait tube that worked great too.  Got slammed by something early on using frozen squid, took the squid and the hook, so went back over with live bait.  Got slammed again, this time it stuck.  Came up with a 30 inch 10 1/2 lb halibut.  Had a lot more takes, but could hook anything else.  Got off the water about noon just as the wind started picking up.

Looking forward to more trips out in my new fishing yak.

Mike
