I have no idea about halibut out of Big Sur. Limekiln has plenty of lings and vermilion if you paddle north to the point a mile and a half or so. We caught a calm day but I could definitely see a swell and wind making the launch and landing dicey.

Well the ocean was calm and my sister and I caught plenty of rock fish. My sister did well for her first time on a kayak. We were limited on time so we kept enough for dinner and had an easy landing on the beach. Glad the ocean cooperated that day.
Definitely gonna fish out of Limekiln again. 4

Anyone been down to Big Sur the past few weeks? First time bringing the kayaks down on our annual camping trip. Looks like it should be pretty calm during the next week. Gonna try Limekiln first on Tuesday morning at 8. Open to any suggestions and advice. Little worried about shore break but I don't melt and the best thing about my kayak is I can stow everything away!
Hoping for the best, crossing my fingers the ocean doesn't keep the kayaks on the rack. I'll do a report when I get back. Reuben 8

General Fishing Tips / Lesson learned Oyster Point!« on: May 29, 2018, 09:53:50 PM »
Today I tried fishing for halibut in the bay for the first time. The water and wind was calm as we set out to fish around 10:30 am. We caught a few undersized halibut using the bouncing ball with a dodger and anchovy, near the channel marker.
Then the wind picked up big time around 12:30 pm, out of the west at 25 mph! We were to far out and it took 45 minutes of tough paddling into the wind and chop to get back in! I knew it gets windy out there but didn't expect the wind until the afternoon. Anyways, lesson learned, get out earlier and be prepared! I was hoping to run into others on kayaks...maybe they knew how windy it was going to get 10

Hi all,
My name is Reuben and I am from Redwood City. I do most of my kayak fishing on camping trips on the coast ( Medocino and Fort Bragg) areas. Looking to do a little more local fishing. Really interested in fishing for Halibut in bay and Salmon in HMB. Bummed I missed The Lost Anchovy Halibut intro at Oyster point. Looking to learn, catch some fish and have fun. Might try and go out next Wednesday from Oyster point, if the wind ever stops! Later
