Spiffy,
That’s just wrong on so many levels, but incredibly awesome all at the same time. Lol.  I kind of want one now.

Dont over think it.

 :smt001It's a boat without a motor  :smt003 :smt044

hahah...a rowboat doesnt need a DMV visit I imagine.  neither does one of the giant swans you can pedal around the lake with your girlfriend.  :D

with a motor...your are registering a friggen SWAN.  that would derail the DMV!!!

Now I’m imagining the looks on the faces of the DMV staff when you register the Swan with the 50 horse Evinrude on it.  :smt001

This just answered my question in another thread about paying registration for putting a motor on. It’s ridiculous that this state wants to charge you for putting a trolling motor on a kayak.

it doenst bother me at all.

the regs reads anything with a motorized propulsion or something.  it is totally on me, that I crossed that threshold.  the line in the sand.  it was cheap and easy but only because I did my homework and I went in prepped to the gills.  I had an answer or a document for every question.

True it is what it is. I guess I’m just still a bit annoyed about anything DMV related after spending most of a day and a ton of money registering a new to us car last week.

Bulldog—-Alex,
Thanks. Yes I’ve been reading a bunch of Clayman’s reports on Almanor over the last several hours.  Priceless information there. In the summer and fall I’ve fished it quite a bit, but mostly fish the tributaries, so my knowledge of the lake is pretty limited. Clayman on the other hand seems to know every inch of it and how every change in season and weather effects it.  Really good stuff.

Buena Vista isn’t even comparable to Almanor. It’s shallow, small, and murky. But it’s big enough to paddle around and chase fish now and then. Sure beats working. Lol

Safety First / Re: Inshore Automatic/Manual Inflatable Life Jackets Sale

I have two of those I bought from Bass Pro shops and they’ve been great for fishing. I take out the automatic part when I’m kayaking so they don’t go off accidentally and if I’m in the big boat I reinstall it. They fit nicely over my fishing vest so I can still access my pockets and they don’t interfere with casting or paddling.  In manual mode you can use the ripcord to set off the co2 and inflate them.

My son was swimming next to his kayak and pulled his cord while goofing off. It inflated fast and seemed to provide a lot of buoyancy. Cost me $20 for a recharge kit and him a few hours of yard work.

I just saw that on another thread confirming it too.  They’ll do anything to get another dollar out of our pockets. I’m surprised you can have candles on a birthday cake without a fire permit in this state. Lol

I read someplace that California wants you to register the yak if you put a motor on it. Is there any truth to that?  I’ve never tried a motor on any of mine, but it sure looks like it makes it easy to hold on a fishing spot with one.

How has that rod holder worked out for you? I just bought that same kayak and need to order a fly rod holder for it. Did the part that mounts it to the rail come with it or is that a separate piece?

Wow! Some of those fish need a kayak of their own to carry them to the shore in.

Canadianjerkey,
If you decide to go the PCP route I highly recommend the Benjamin Murauder. I’ve had one for several years now and love it. Shoots dime sized groups out to 50 yards and quarter size at 100. Definitely a far cry from my clunky old Gamo.

Thanks. Yes Lassen and Plumas county areas are amazing for trout. I’m down in Kern county right now taking care of family stuff and climbing the walls wanting to get back on Lake Almanor. That’s actually how I found this forum because I was looking for fish reports, researching the new to me tarpon, and daydreaming about getting back up there next month.

Hello,
I’ve semi retired and split my time between Kern and Lassen Counties. Fish and paddle around Buena Vista lake and Lake Almanor in a Pescador 12 or my float tube mostly. Recently picked up a Tarpon 120 to expand the fleet. While researching the Tarpon I found this forum and it seems to have a lot of good information on it, so I joined up.
