Hey there-

If you have an extra original style Hobie Seat with the two posts on the bottom of it that fit into the holes on the kayak - I need one or even two, I have $60 for each one, if that works, let me know- thanks y'all!

Got a call from Andy(BaitnBeer) and it was good news! Dan Silveira hit him up and said he grabbed the fins before he left. I called Dan and it's confirmed, he has them! Super awesome feeling recovering them.

Thank you to everyone that helped - you all are awesome!

What I learned from this - check and then double, shoot triple check, to make sure I have everything packed and collected before leaving. Maybe even have a checklist.

Also another member mentioned a good idea, tagging your items. So I'll be writing on my fins and gun, my email address and phone number, just in case for the future.

Thank you again Dan Silveira and everyone!

Hey there Everyone,

I totally forgot my freedive fins at Still Water Cove today. I left at 4pm today, Sunday. If you happened to come across a pair of fins with beachat foot pockets, and dark green camo carbon blades, please let me know. I left them at the top of the stairs leaning against the rails.  There were quite a few divers out there today, so I hope someone noticed them. Thanks for your time and help guys-

I have a bud that does this in Australia for retail purposes and he uses a 6lb Sand tumbler.
First he soaks the shells in vinegar/water solution, in a black garbage bag, in the sun for a few days. This helps to not stain the shells by over etching the surface with a haze like from muriatic.

Then it's like a rock tumbler for polishing rocks, but in this case you would use black coarse glass sand and tumble it for 48 hours. The results are spectacular, a smooth clean surface and identical to what you have pictured for the finished product, minus many of the direct health hazards.

Cheers,

Geoff

I'm not sure where you dove and how far out/deep you were able to get, but I have to say that the the population of abs in the 25' plus range is still very healthy. Now I will agree that the remains of dead abs in the shallows are present, and it's obvious it's from the die off, but to say that the species is in danger, is a little far fetched.

You see, when the die off occurred it suffocated every bivalve along the affected shoreline, unless they were able to smell what was to come and high tale it to deeper water. The ammonia from the death was too much for the natural shore breaks to skim, thus causing a huge spike in bacteria to finish off the already depleted oxygen along the affect shoreline. If you were a fish, you could book it to deeper water and wait for dinner to drift your way and be served. The abs, scallops, urchin, lipids, etc, on the other hand choked and died.

Okay-so your saying to yourself now, duh, I already knew this. But....did you know that the macro algae that normally thrived along the affected area died as well and the wrong kind of micro algae smothered everything and moved in. Even the hard coralline algae, pink colored stuff on rocks, bleached out and died. So now your wondering what that has to do with this years season.

Well if you were an Ab and nothing smelled good enough to cruise shallow to eat, would you leave your sweet deep pocket and risk the Sahara for a crumb? So all I'm saying is that your not seeing anything in the shallower region, yet, because there isn't enough of the right macro algae around to support a healthy ecosystem and to entice the abs to come marching in. I'd say give it a few warm summer months after the fresh water from the rain stops and you'll see plenty of residents taking up their usual nooks and crannies. But in the meantime I suggest diving deeper and researching a little before joining random sites for the first time only to shout "Bomb".

Happy Diving!
