Well time for an owner report.  I just love this kayak.  It is everything as advertised.  Definitely stable and I the seat is quite comfortable.  The only thing I would not do again is get the umbrella as that has turned into a sail on windy days.  It fits quite nicely into my Avalanche with the back seat folded down!  And I can unload and load it myself at the age of 68.

I originally thought I would not use it for fishing, but that has changed.  So now I am thinking through what I still need.  Next up will be pole anchors...something I am sure you do not use that often.

Should be delivered tomorrow but then I am immediately off on a business trip ... oh well.  I will start a new thread when I can report.

Just got two pics of my  kayak showing me how they installed my umbrella.  One has a workbench in the background with a horizontal pipe that looks like it is part of my kayak .... NOPE.

Here are the pics.  The long ones are for the paddle and my umbrella.  The short ones are for boxes/gear.  I read elsewhere that the metal clips do not last well in saltwater so I got the plastic ones as well.  They are quite nice and only 50 cents a piece.  The short one stretches about the width of the table and the long one about 5 feet.  You can partially see that in the picture with my koi pond in the background.

I believe this is a current picture of the underside of the umbrella.  It looks to me like it is held in place with metal rods like ordinary umbrellas today are.  Is this what you remember?

Thank you very much for that word of caution.  I will look carefully at that when I get the umbrella.  I was told that if I do not like it, I can return it.  The mount we put on the kayak can serve many other purposes, so no worries there if I return the umbrella.

Got a call from Tom regarding their receiving my Pro-Techt umbrella and kayak mount.  He said that the umbrella looks very well made and that the way they plan to install it on the kayak with the kayak mount should make it look like it was made for it.    That was the good news.  He then told me it will be a few more weeks before they can ship it so that tells me they may have held up production on mine for the umbrella.   Sigh ....

Out on the YakAngler Forum, I came across this thread:

http://www.yakangler.com/forum/22-buy-sell-trade/31239-neverlost-gear-products?limitstart=0&start=20

Looks like a very nice step up on straps to use to not lose gear.  Anyone here buy them yet?

Looks like Eddyline has decided not to make their own motor mount.  One of their dealers (The Kayak Fishing Store) is developing one if its own and they will refer interested customers to them.

I emailed Eddyline on my idea about installing the Pro-Techt umbrella and mounting it to the BlackPak. Here is what they said:

------------------------------------------

That looks like a real nice Bimini top.  Should work well, however I question whether mounting it on the BlackPak would be best. There are several reasons for this, but mostly because it would limit your access to the BlackPak itself.  Additionally, putting straps and associated tie downs to secure it would be messy.

My suggestion would be to have us install two 4” GTTL90 Top Loading Gear tracks into the recessed circular areas behind the seat.  I’ve measured it out, and it would fit perfectly, given the 26 ½” maximum spread on the Kayak Mounting Bracket.  I like the idea of using that bar because it would spread the stress to each side of the boat.  I’m  not as worried about the actual weight of the unit itself, but rather the potential stress originating from variable wind conditions.

-------------------------------------------------------

Eddyline also asked that I purchase the umbrella now and send it to them so they can be sure there are no surprises....so off to do that.

I am looking to add an umbrella to my C-135.  I have found a very nicely constructed one that has a kayak mount among its options. I talked to the owner of Pro-Techt and he thinks the kayak mount would work well inside a rod holder on the blackpac.

There are numerous other mounting options as well.

Here is a comprehensive review from 2004 that is still valid today (other than pricing and multiple base options beyond those listed in this post).

Below is a picture of it mounted in the YakAttack tracks.

Paddleboy, if you read this before the demo tomorrow, could you ask the Eddyline folks what they think/recommend?
