General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak loading on tailgate spoiler

Thanks y’all. Good advice here as usual.
I will give the Codinter device a try since it’s the simplest option. My Odyssey doesn’t have rails or hatch, so first order of business would be to install the rails and crossbars.
I’ll report when I make progress
I've tried those, it doesnt stay on all time and will slip when you put weight on it.

I added a Yakima Showboat to my roof rack. Been working great for the last 5 years.

General Talk / Re: Best place to buy a drysuit
« on: January 31, 2024, 03:01:30 PM »
Through the years I've owned 2 Hydrus suits and 2 Goretex suits. Goretex is a lot more breathable. I base this on how much I sweat portaging gear for surf launches. But then there is the extra cost factor.  Do I think its worth it. I say Yes. I am dry and comfortable. It lasts years and Kokatat has a great warranty policy.  Just take care of it.

Outdoorplay has sales on drysuits fairly often. This is the one I have been using for about 6 years: https://www.outdoorplay.com/products/kokatat-supernova-angler-gore-tex-pro-dry-suit
Thats the same I have. Kokatat now has Goretex Pro which is suppose to be heavier duty as to regular Goretex. I sent my old 6.5 yr old Goretex angler suit for a warranty claim. Kokatat approved it and sent me their brand new latest suit.

I have the 2023 Senior Angler pass, paid $150. I've been fishing once and sometimes twice a week. I experienced around 20 trout limits at Chabot last year. I am at Quarry lakes now, no bites yet.

Skunked at Quarry today

I have the EBRPD annual fishing pass. I use it regularly at Chabot, Quarry Lakes and Shadow Cliffs because they are close to my house. I am definitely getting my money's worth.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: BFS Trout Setups - worth the expense?
« on: December 12, 2023, 08:11:37 PM »
I did a quick afternoon trip at Quarry Lakes yesterday from 2pm to 4:30pm. I came across 2 kayakers with high end gear both BFS and on their yaks. They were casting mini spoons. They told me at the boat ramp that between the 2 of them they C&R around 50 dfw trout that were about 8 inches. They stayed in one area near the fishing pier.

I on the other hand trolled the entire lake with my go to kastmasters and Yozuri minnows. I ended the day with a 2 nice trout, biggest was a 5.5 lb lightning.

Here's the kayakers I came across at Quarry Lakes fishing BFS style.
