CA Regulations / Re: Over limit halibut - yourubers strike again

Just seems like such a dumb thing to get this invested in. Like what a weird hill to die on.. editing footage so the poaching is out just seems like a huge moral compromise for a relatively small "mistake" at the end of the day
^ 100% THIS. Admit you're wrong, scrap the entire video, learn from it and move on. Simple. Not much contrition being shown by editing the video and milking a soiled outing for a few more followers though. But as Doug said, likes are one hell of a drug. Any content is good content apparently.

The deep hole right above the campground holds some of the biggest squawfish that I've ever seen. Arm length, no exaggeration.

My thread got hijacked, but yeah Brian Setzer for the win. Other entries could include Jump On It from Montrose, Sugarhill Gang, Sir Mix-alot...
Okay gotta refocus. Adam never got back to me. Time to follow up.
The best thing would be if he would send me all his printed stickers so I could destroy them.
"Jump In The Fire" by Metallica.

But in all seriousness, it's one thing to err - that is human after all. But to err and not make it right once you know about it, well ...

General Talk / Re: Why are my pots filled with Baby dungys?

Bumping, as I never heard of slender crab before?  I had seen a few YT videos where people commented that they didn't think what they were catching were dungies, and guess this is what they had?
The easiest ways to identify a slender crab is that their legs are hairless and they don't have any spines or ridging on their upper claws. The ones I've caught have all looked remarkably purple as well which usually prompts a closer look at the other characteristics.

General Talk / Re: Tamale Bay Missing Kayaker
« on: January 30, 2023, 06:07:24 PM »
Last time I was at Lawson's, I was kinda taken back by the behavior of some of the kayakers there. Lots of big box store kayaks, very few PFDs, even fewer wet/dry suits. Kayaks overstuffed with hoops paddled by inexperienced kayakers in jeans and a t-shirt with a beer in the beverage holder. Alot of "I'm just paddling out to the channel to drop a hoop so it's no big deal" thinking. As we all know, that whole area is no joke and claims lives every year.

Welcome! Fellow Napa fisherman here. Post a hookup if you're looking for company on the water sometime.  :smt006

Thank you for the reply Will.

Was looking to add mussels to the steamed crab. I'm sure I will find a suitable replacement at Safeway.  :smt001
If you don't mind a long walk or a short hike, check out the very south end of the beach at Doran(easier access from the Pinnacle Gulch Trail in the neighborhood above the golf course). There are a few rocky outcrops as you continue south on the beach that are full of exposed mussels at low tide. Some nice tidepools too.

10' outgoing tide difference on the Napa River (8.5 to a -1.5) the next two days. Anybody up for a one way paddle?

Not sure where exactly you are in the South Bay but it looks like it has a decent distribution down there right now according to Untapped. As was said earlier, it's well worth checking that app or website out if you're looking for something specific.

You'll see hoards of people snaring along the road near Campbell Cove(south jetty side) and you'll usually see a kayaker or two in the mix working pots in that area. In my experience, it's not been super productive and it gets even less so as the season progresses. ou'll get a fair number of rock crabs mixed in, but if you're only looking for a few crabs, its worth a shot. Just make sure your pots and buoys are well outside of the channel.

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing! I run garden programs for several elementary schools and I think my older students would actually get a kick out of doing this.
