With striper season right around the corner, I just wanted to post that the Kennedy Park Boat Launch on the Napa River will be closed until October 15th. The city is making improvements to the dock and dredging the launch, the latter being desperately needed. If you have wheels or a buddy, there's a beach launch just south of the launch parking lot (the very first access point along the paved path under the oak trees). The timing of the closure stinks but it'll be nice to be able to use the ramp at low tide again soon.

General Fishing Tips / What's in your bass tackle box ?
« on: February 26, 2016, 10:28:16 AM »
A quick question for the bass fishermen in the group ...

I used to fish for bass a lot when I was in high school/college  - mostly nearby farm ponds in the spring and summer. Usually a few reaction baits like RatLTraps and swimbaits, and a few spinnerbaits or Beetle Spins were all that you needed to be successful. I literally haven't fished for bass in fifteen years and have recently been thinking that I'd like take advantage of the local lakes like Berryessa or Clear Lake again. Needless to say, I need to greatly update/replace my bass tackle to do so.

So, say a person had a hundred dollars to spend. What would be your go-to baits to put together a spring-fall bass tackle box ? Any input would be really helpful.

General Fishing Tips / So.Co. Perch Intel ?
« on: February 19, 2016, 12:17:40 PM »
Anyone have any recent intel on perch along the Sonoma County coast ? I've got one day off, tomorrow, and plan to give it a go. Last time I checked, the surf looked challenging for tbe day but I'm going to make the best of it anyways. Thinking either the golf course end of Doran or the south end of Salmon Creek. Any info would be supremely appreciated. Thanks, all !   :smt001

Safety First / Cyber Monday - SPOT GPS Emergency Devices
« on: November 30, 2015, 07:00:10 PM »
I just came across this in case anyone is in the market for a Personal GPS Emergency/Messenger unit, a GPS asset tracker, or a Satellite phone. The units themselves are free with the purchase of a coverage plan right now. Not sure how long the deal is good for.

Safety First / Jetskiier missing - Napa River
« on: November 19, 2015, 07:08:02 AM »
If anyone is out on the river today, a jetskiier went missing Wednesday evening on the Napa River. Not much info out there yet, other than she's a woman in her 50's who lives in the area. Search crews are targeting the Cuttings Wharf area. Keep your eyes peeled if you're in the area.

General Fishing Tips / Kalin's Grubs/Scampis
« on: November 04, 2015, 06:03:51 PM »
One of my favorite lures for rockfish and ling are Kalin's grubs or scampis in the 6 - 10" sizes. If anyone else is a fan, Outlet Bait and Tackle has them on sale for 70-80% off right now. Colors are limited, but packs are $1.00-$1.50 each. I grabbed the entire stash below for less than  $30.

You can check out their selection here ... http://www.overstockbait.com/search.php?search_query=kalins

Once you add items to your cart, the sale price shows up.

For Sale / Vintage Tackle Boxes - $25
« on: September 29, 2015, 01:02:19 PM »
Hey all,

I picked these tackle boxes up for an intended project a few years ago but never got around to doing anything meaningful with them. They're various makes and models(many Liberty), and have varying levels of patina from use and age. Just sitting around in storage now so hopefully someone has some is a collector collector has some creative inspiration for them. Just hoping to get back some of the money that I paid for them. Asking $25 each on CL, so NCKA discount applies from there.

Don't hesitate to shoot me a PM with questions or interest.

Best,
Chris.

For Sale / Northwest Territory Boulder Ridge Family Tent - $125
« on: September 26, 2015, 09:24:19 AM »
Anybody looking for a tent ? I'm selling a LIKE NEW Northwest Territory Boulder Ridge Family Tent. Its a great tent but its just way too big for my girlfriend and I. I bought it originally because of the center height - I'm a taller guy and I can stand up in this tent without smashing my head into the ceiling. Tons of room for multiple blow up mattresses, all of your gear, and even a table and chairs if you want to hang out and stay dry in the rain. Its only been out of the case twice, one of which was an overnight sleepover on the lawn. Great tent, but just way bigger than we need right now.

The specs ...

- 10 person tent
- 15' x 12' (6'6" center height)
- Detachable mud mat for front door, lots of windows including one massive "landscape window" at one end, fitted rainfly, storage "closet," several hanging storage pouches, sealed cord pass through for electical devices/generator, etc.
- Nearly new condition (it has only been used on two camping trips and cleaned and stored in a dry location in between uses)
- Comes with the original zip up storage case, paperwork, guylines, and tent stakes.
- More info ...http://www.amazon.com/Northwest-Territory-Boulder-Ridge-10-Person/dp/B008I2Z6DI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Asking $125 on CL. NCKA discount from there. The pictures are stock but I'll look for some of our camping pics of it set up. Otherwise, I can set it up and take pics if anyone is really interested.

For Sale / FREE/TRADE: Float Tube and River Shoes
« on: September 01, 2015, 12:17:20 PM »
Hey all,

I'm in the process of moving so I'm coming across all kinds of goodies that I just don't need to take with me. Figured I'd offer it up on here first.

I have a Trout Trap float tube that's older, but only been out of the box twice since I've had it. I haven't used it in years and it literally looks brand new. Tube looks good and the shell is flawless. Comes with a pair of Browning size 12E felt bottomed river shoes as well. The shoes have never been used and are brand new. I just dont have the space to hold onto something I havent used in ages.

I dont know, maybe we can make a trade if you have something to spare. Anyone have extra crab gear they'd want to trade perhaps ? Otherwise, eh, just pick it up and put it all to good use and offer up some of your surplus gear to other NCKA brethren down the line ... a little Free It Forward.

Pickup in Napa or Saint Helena or maybe we can arrange another North Bay exchange if those locales don't work. Just want to see it get some usr. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Navionics Help
« on: August 18, 2015, 08:35:00 PM »
So, I know that this is difficult to diagnose from a distance but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I had a Lowrance Elite 4 HDI that came with the Navionics Plus package. I recently sold that FF and upgraded to an Elite 5 Chirp but kept the Navionics card from the previous FF. I tried the old data in the new FF but it didn't seem to be displaying at all. So I updated the software on the 5, went through the process of downloading fresh data on the Navionics card, popped the card into the 5, and changed the chart selection to Navionics. As best I can tell, its not working.

I can toggle between Lowrance,  Navionics, and Navionics Fish n' Chips and nothing changes on the map at all. Zoomed way out, zoomed way in, everything stays the same when moving between chart sources. I can browse the files on the card and its showing everything that should be there, but nothing seems to display. I can go into the chart options and de/select community edits, depth contours, etc. but the map never changes. I don't remember having anywhere close to this trouble with the previous FF.

Needless to say, I'm confused. Any insight into what I'm missing or overlooking would be beyond appreciated. Thanks !

For Sale / TAKEN - Humminbird 170 FF
« on: August 09, 2015, 06:51:55 PM »
Hey all,

I have a Humminbird 170 FF that I just don't use it anymore and hopefully someone in the NCKA community can put it to use. Its a no frills, black and white style sonar but it works fine. Its currently set up with a makeshift scupper transducer mount but I have the original mounting bracket that it came with as well. The original base mount for the head is missing but a replacement can be bought cheap on eBay or even fabricated with PVC to fit in a Scotty base (how this one was set up). All for the low, low price of free. Or if you have some gear kicking around that you don't use and you'd like to make available to others, we can get a little Free It Forward thing going. No pressure though.

PM me, if interested.

For Sale / *SOLD* Lowrance Elite 4 HDI w/transducer - $175
« on: August 02, 2015, 09:10:03 PM »
Hey everybody ...

I'm selling my Lowrance Elite 4 HDI Fishfiner/GPS. It works flawlessly and I can't say enough good things about it. It comes with the 83/200 + 455/800khz dual band transducer, the original box and paperwork, all cables and mounts, and several anti-glare screen protectant films (one is already installed). Aside from a few scratches on the transducer and the capped extra data cable, it looks just as clean as it did when I opened the box. Asking $175.

Heres a link to the CL posting with more pictures ... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/spo/5153403999.html

Shoot me a PM if you're interested or have questions. If pickup logistics are a problem, I'm happy to ship it to you. Thanks for looking !

Safety First / NCKA Member RHYAK on Shark Week tonight
« on: July 06, 2015, 06:41:22 PM »
Just happened to turn on Discovery a moment ago and there was a long interview with Ryan (RHYAK) and some in depth analysis of his attack down south last October. Researchers are using DNA analysis to link the shark that attacked Ryan with other attacks in the area. Pretty interesting. The show was called "Return of the Great White Serial Killer" and it should air again later tonight.
