Victor, I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. I’m relatively new to NCKA and kayak fishing. I am glad to see you are alive and posting about your recovery. Much better than the alternative. Based on all the posts of people who know you, you seem like a great guy, I hope I get to meet you one day on the water.

I appreciate your sharing your advice about staying safe on the water and will definitely take your accident to heart and be very wary on try d water for PBS. Take care and be well both physically and mentally. God bless.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Sacramento River Trolling
« on: October 18, 2021, 09:32:05 PM »
In addition to trolling, the DWC in W. SAC is supposed to be good for jogging. I’ve seen several caught in front of me. I haven’t been lucky yet. Probably head out there next week.

Got windy around 8-9, but glassy til noon. Lots of shakers on the radio. I got a 19” shaker and a few scratch baits. Then just for the heck of it, I got stupid on my way back in and reached too far right and over I went. A minute to collect my floating gear and relax, then quick self-rescue and back into the dock (which was only a few hundred yards away. Lost my tactical backpack (forgot to leash it) with a few things - luckily I emptied most of my extra (non-halibut) tackle last night. All in all nice day on the bay.

Anyone heading out to ARW tomorrow (6/13)? Hoping to hit the water about 6am. Coming in from Stockton. Probably ride the ride out til 9:30, then work my way back in on the incoming tide.

I’ll be on a olive green (painted) Ocean Kayak Prowler 13.

Relatively new to the group. From Stockton. Fishing the delta and Sac River. Can’t wait to hit the bay and the ocean soon!

Nice! I was out near King island on 1/23 trying out my new fish finder and targeting striper. Wind made it a bit cold and kept blowing me around - need to get an anchor. Skunked, but was mainly testing out the finder and my DIY rod holders.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Port of Sacramento

I was jogging in the near the lock under/near the bridge. The end of the canal had some other guys. There were 3 of us on kayaks “in the middle” jigging for salmon. I didn’t try for striper since I only had 2 hours til sunset.

Went out this evening. One guy leaving had a nice, big salmon. I fished for about 2 hours with some other guys. Salmon jumped around us every 5 minutes that entire time, I kid you not. It was like a sick game of taunting. No hookups.

One of the best threads written here. Just search and you'll find a ton of info about launch locations

Wow, that is an excellent thread! Wish I had found that before the 2 times I skunked there. Now I have some work to do with that as a general guide!

I’d like to head out to the barge canal Friday. Won’t know for sure til Thursday. Looks like high tide is just after noon. So probably an afternoon fishing trip. I’ll check back here tomorrow.

13
I’ve tried jigging at the locks in the barge canal/deep water channel in W. Sac. Done shore fishing in Freeport. Took the kayak out of Clarksburg only to catch a bass. Not sure if you were only looking for the northern end of Sac River. Barge Hole up north and Barge Canal in W. Sac. May be going back on the canal in Nov for one more shot at salmon from my yak.

Nice! I was considering that as a launch point. New to kayak fishing and hoping to get out on the bay in November. Coming out from Stockton. Thanks for the report. Congrats on your firsts!

New to the group...
I’ve been out to the DWC twice to jig for salmon and troll for striper. No bites on anything, I usually can scare up shaker striper using bait from shore, but new to yak fishing (so I’m learning a whole new thing). May go back out in Nov for one last try at salmon.

I’m in Stockton, so maybe I’ll see you guys around in the winter for striper action. May try the bay Alameda Rock Wall in Nov as well if anyone is game.
