Launched out of ARW an hour late 7AM. High tides was expected 11am Trolled around looking for some sort of life. I made it out past the rock wall, and thought I should start back now because the wind will pick up around 1pm. On the return back just as I passed the Red channel marker and hook up with a 28.5" Halibut dragged it up to the surface and pissed it off when I missed with the 1st gaff attempt. She made a huge run as you would imagine if you pissed off the fish. Dragged it back to the surface and completed the 2nd gaff job. My first Halibut keeper now on the boat and I was filled with excitement. As I enjoyed the fruits of my labor I rode the out going tide.  Now I returned to my idea that I need to get in before the wind picks up. Trolling full speed back and the fastest I can go was 1.5 mph. It felt as if I was going nowhere. I slowly made it past the first wall and I heard others who were further out, then I talk about how hard it was for them to paddle against the tide. Another kayaker suggested going behind the wall for the return to get out of the tide. I just past the opening to go behind and I thought about what to do and made the decision to go back and go behind the wall for the return back to the launch area. It was a great Idea to go behind the wall for the return. This decision doubled my speed back in to the launch. I went from 1/1.5 mph to 3.5mph. The out going tide was very difficult to return back to the launch.

ALWAYS Remember you can return BEHIND the ROCK WALL.  Beach landing but very easy landing.

Thinking of getting a trolling motor and not doing the CA Registration. Does anyone know how much the violation or fine would be?

What happens with the catch me if you can attitude?  I'm the type of person who drives in the commuter lane waiting for my ticket.

What do you guys think?

CA Regulations / Crab season 20/21
« on: October 26, 2020, 02:56:44 PM »
Setting up for the 20/21 crab season. Here is my understanding of the regulations.

I'm not sure but I think I read that we have to have a 3x5 inch red trailer float 3 feet or less attached to the 11 inch red and white Float. Is this true?

Hoop 4.25 inch escape for small crab

Rotten cotton 120 single knot, 5 inch escape min opening after cotton destroyed

General Fishing Tips / Bass Pro supply San Jose
« on: October 07, 2020, 08:58:03 AM »
Bass Pro in San Jose inventory is really low. Are they going out of business or they can't get inventory? Where can we buy local?

Normally they have thousands of rods and reels, but now there are less then 100 rods and reels look sold out.

How is the inventory in Bass Pro Manteca?

Sportsman Expo in Milpitas Closed.

Not impressed with Dicks inventory. Maybe some location are better then others.

I do not want to buy online,  SUPPORT LOCAL!

Safety First / Test Drive Pro Angler 14 CCK (California Canoe and Kayak)
« on: January 13, 2020, 01:02:51 PM »
I tried to test drive a PA14 (Pro Angler 14) on Saturday Jan 11 '20, but they did not have one available, however I did get to test drive the PA12. I was looking more at the ergonomics of the cockpit. I am 6'2" and 300 lbs with hip problems (possible Hip Replacement). Both the PA12 and PA14 are very similar in the Cockpit. Bow and Stern are stretched on the PA14.

CCK set up the kayak with the seat in the high position, which I thought would have the most room and comfort. It was comfortable to sit in at the high setting, but the pedal position at the longest (#7) it felt like my knees were smashing my belly. The strange part now is when I lowered the seat I would have expected it to make the cockpit smaller. I was wrong, it actually made it bigger. My legs were fully extended as i peddled the kayak. I might have to move the peddle back to position #6.

Over all feel of the PA12 was very comfortable. The 36" beam seemed a little tippy with my overly burdened body rotating side to side. It still felt good, but The PA14 will be better because it has 38" beam which should plant the boat better and more stable. Speed is unknown since I am new to the game and don't know proper pedal movement. As I watch you all on Youtube it looks like you are barely peddling. I was peddling like crazy and felt the burn in the Quads. PA12 seemed fast enough (no GPS), but the PA14 will be faster.

Introductions / looking forward to new mistakes
« on: November 21, 2019, 03:14:04 PM »
Here I am, now what is the first mistake to make.

Looking to buy a Kayak and get off the land and do some real fishing (catching). Although it always seem like the people in boats are always casting at the shoreline. People on shore are always casting as far as possible from the shore. Where are the fish?

Thanks for the add

Glenn
