General Talk / Pajaro Breach
« on: March 11, 2023, 05:24:29 PM »
I’m down south for a couple days, just found out, and out of the loop.  Doesn’t anyone need help?  Is there another thread I’m missing?

What is this thing called?  Googling "ram ball star mount" or "ram star mount" gives me like two results from the other side of the world.

When I say "no idea" I really mean no idea.  Despite having thousands of dollars of spearfishing gear, my angling equipment is a lowly catfish rod and a spinning reel with line that's at least fifteen years old.  I have a family camping trip at Bass Lake in June, and I need some guidance.

WTF do I do?  I have that rod, a Trident 15 with a fish finder, a 25 year old tackle box with lures that are equally old, and maybe other junk that I could scrounge up.  Maybe turn on the fish finder and paddle around until I find something?  How do I find structure?  Look at maps?  How do I figure out how to target different species?  Maybe decide I'm only going after one species and target that?

I'm really honestly clueless about everything.

Ok, the fish finder turned on for me for like a second and now won't turn on.  It comes with a 12v battery that only takes 6v.  Lowrance Mark 4 with ram mount.

Wheeleez - $100.  They had a leak near the stem but I fixed it and it's been holding air without issue.
Yakima Landshark Saddles on DIY kayak rack - $50
Kayak Anchor - $20.  Newish condition
Fish bat - $5
Cannon Rod Holder - $10
Scotty Extended Rod Holder - $15
Kelp Clip - $5

OK Trident 15 Prowler with Seat & Paddle - $pending

Everything is located in Hollister, but I occasionally make my way up to the South Bay and often out to Monterey.  Pictures should be in the next post.

For Sale / Free Yakima Crossbars in Hollister
« on: March 07, 2020, 11:28:27 AM »
I have four round crossbars I don’t need.  Two are longer, two are not so longer.  One of the longer has been shortender.  2x48”, 55.5”, and 58”.  The longer has rusty holes in the end.  The short has peeling plastic covering.

If you’re one of those people who feels guilty for accepting others’ generosity, just bring me a beer and take these off my hands.

For Sale / Neptonics Pinch Weights and Kayak Anchors
« on: May 24, 2017, 03:25:32 PM »
Hi all,

I'm going to do a run of Neptonics pinch weights and kayak anchors. The weights are 2lbs each and will cost $6 each.  The anchors will be around 3lbs, and will likely be a 3" half sphere with a 2' galvanized cable and swaged loop.  It should come out to $20 or less for the anchor.

Just reply to this thread or send me a PM so I can get a general estimate of how much lead I need to get.

Hi all,

I'm looking at a few fish finders and I was about to pull the trigger on the Garmin echoMAP 43dv, and then saw the Striker 4 and Hook 4 on West Marine too.  The main advantage I see to the 43dv is the ability to build my own depth charts.  Both the 43dv and Hook 4 are $199, and the Striker 4 is $119.  Other than the chart making ability, I don't really understand what the functional differences are between all of them, or whether those differences are worth it to me.  Could someone enlighten me?
