Saw this today on craigslist;

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/spo/4886390918.html

Sounds fishy to me.  Who buys a brand new kayak, never uses it, then takes a 50% loss on it?

Anyways, sounds like a great deal for someone if it's legit.  The guy does post up his phone # under the contacts ☎ 5307989056

For Sale / Inverter generator for sale 2KW $400 [SOLD]
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:03:12 PM »
I have a 2000 watt inverter generator for sale.  I'm getting rid of it because I got a smaller one from my son that works fine and I am liking the lighter weight.

Winter storms are coming, earthquakes are predicted, and weekend tournaments are scheduled.  A genny can come in handy in many ways!!

You can read about it here;
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/for/4800092340.html

I wouldn't offer this up for sale to my NCKA family if I didn't think it was a great generator.  I've used it on one or two trips to Yosemite and ran it a couple more times to keep the seals from drying out.

Inverter generators in lighter, quieter and put out a clean sine wave for running delicate electronic equipment.
This one weighs 63 pounds without gas.  Add another 10 pounds for the fuel and it's not a featherweight, but still lighter than regular style generators.

Watched the evening news and there was a story about the commercial crab fishing boats.  Looks like they have so many crab, that the boats are backing up a dozen or more boats to unload and taking longer than 24 hours to get back to their pots.  Some are selling right off their boats at $6 a pound.  Boats coming all the way from Washington are moving down due to the bumper crop of crabs.

Just thought I'd pass that along and see how that compares what's being seen out there.

CA Regulations / Saw something disturbing today...
« on: August 29, 2014, 05:20:56 PM »
I figured Hojo might know;
I went to Apple Hill this morning, High Hill Ranch in particular, for a hot and fresh apple fritter.  While sitting at the little pond where fishing is allowed on a per-fish basis, I saw the guy who runs the fishing shack and his wife try to spook Canadian geese off the pond.  He was casting a line with a rod / reel that had a bobber and a hook on it.  Well, he snagged one of the geese and attempted to reel it in.  All the geese took off and he tried to reel the goose in.  It was really panicked and it's mate kept swinging around, also in distress because it's mate was hollering so much.  The line broke about 10' back and the goose swam away.  The goose could not fly.  The guy got a heavier line and with a bobber he did it again!  He snagged that goose and reeled it in, then cut several feathers off the wing that had the hook in it.  When he released the goose, it again could not fly.  Now it's wings trimmed on one side caused it to be lop sided.  It could run though.  So the guy went after that goose AGAIN!
I approached him and asked him what he was doing.  He told me he was trying to get the geese off the pond.  I told him that I thought it was illegal to harass wildlife.  I told him that I was pretty sure a goose was considered a game animal and his capturing one on purpose, three times, probably was a violation of the fish and game laws.

So, did he violate the law?  Should I have reported him to the 800 Cal Tip phone #?  That goose isn't gonna fly for quite some time and maybe never if it's wing is broken.  I didn't have my camera with me, but a couple other folks were taking photos.

General Talk / Trolling?
« on: July 07, 2014, 08:16:57 PM »
I saw a link on a webpage that looked interesting and clicked on it.  While watching it, I kept waiting for a BIG fish come take the 'lure'.  Anyone else think this looks like trolling to them?

I bought these over the winter, and being retired, spent time getting them pimped out, only to finally admit my wife will NEVER learn to ride hers.  They are a matched pair and, well, here's my craigslist ad.   I know I'm asking a steep price, but these are better than new with all the stuff I've added and the care taken to set them up.

I'm looking to buy a Yamaha TW200 with the proceeds and ride 2-up on that with her, taking this with us while we travel in our RV this summer.

General Talk / Any skiiers on here?
« on: March 31, 2014, 07:07:20 PM »
I've added some new (to me) skis and boots to my quiver and heading up tomorrow morning to buy my season pass at Sierra-at-Tahoe.  Should be great skiing; mid week, fresh powder, colder temperatures.
If anyone wants to join, I've got room in the Subaru.  Leaving Placerville area around 7:30am.

BTW, a full blown season pass is $289 this year and includes free skiing the rest of this season at Sierra.  Also, Sierra has partnered with a lot of other ski resorts to let their season pass holders ski free at these locations for the 2014-2015 season;
4 free days at Squaw Valley
4 free days at Alpine Meadows
1 free day at Monarch Mountain, Colorado
3 free days at Snow Basin, Utah
3 free days at Crested Butte, Colorado
3 free days at Stevens Pass, Washington (near Seattle)
3 free days at Mountain High, Southern California
3 free days at Schweitzer Mountain, Idaho
3 free days at Angel Fire Resort, New Mexico
3 free days at Timberline Lodge and Ski, Mt. Hood, Oregon
3 free days at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, Oregon
3 free days at China Peak, California (65 miles from Fresno)
3 free days at Arizona Snowbowl, Flagstaff AZ
3 free days at Bridger Bowl, Bozeman Montana

With most resorts charging around $80 for a lift ticket these days, ($84 at Sierra; non-holiday) it only takes 4 trips to more than pay for the season pass.

General Talk / Theives; ever been a victim? What did you do after?
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:27:58 AM »
I've been reading on many forums I belong to about thefts.  Guitars, kayaks, motorcycles, RV's, etc.  Sometimes it's homes broken into, other times cars parked away from home or in the driveway.

On Friday our neighborhood street was 'hit' by thieves.  4 cars were burglarized, 2 were homes adjoining properties to mine!

Some time ago, I left my garage door open and someone stole my chainsaw and bench grinder.  I've also had my son's car broke into to steal CD's while parked in front of my house.

A neighbor across the street had his house broken into a couple years ago.

with these thefts on the rise, for what ever reason; economy, drug users, punk kids showing off, I've taken and am taking a few steps.

We formed a neighborhood watch, which is how I've been able to find out that my neighbors were robbed.

I installed motion detector lights at each of the 4 corners of the house. (Which is probably why my cars weren't hit on Friday and the neighbors were; the lights are BRIGHT!!  Sensitive enough that the cat can trip them by either body heat or motion and they stay on for 4 or 5 minutes before turning back off.  (No testing the zone of coverage that trips them that way)

I am currently installing a driveway gate w/electric motor.  In the process of designing the system, I've decided that I do NOT want a public-side keypad or intercom.  If the gate is closed, go away!  If you ignore the gate, expect to hear gunfire.  I'll post a sign;
TRESPASSERS WILL BE VIOLATED
(that ought to give some pause for thought)
I will have a trip on the public side of the gate that sets off a chime in the house so I know someone is up there and a remote to allow me to open the gate if I choose.  Since I can see the top of the driveway from the house, even though it's about 150' away, I don't think I'll put in a camera.  Well, maybe a fake camera that makes folks THINK they are being watched or recorded.

So, who's been a victim and what have you done since?
