You wont get to that highlighted area. Seadrift is a gated community.

Correct.  I'm a little challenged with posting map/satellite pics, but you want to look for the Seadrift gate entrance where Called Del Arroyo ends and Seadrift and Dipsea Rd. begin.  Just before the gate is a small road/walkway, public access, called Walla Vista.

Is this the launch you guys use at Bolinas?

Looks like that picture is inside the Seadrift gate.  Check out my post above.

Where did you launch from?

I've launched from Stinson.  2 options, one is to pull into main lot and hang a right and go to the far northern section of the parking lot/beach, then launch from anywhere north of the dividing line between the GGNRA part of the beach where the rangers are (south side, rangers/lifeguards don't like kayaks mixing with all the waders/swimmers), and the county part of the beach where dogs are  allowed (north side).  Can be crowded here though, so option #2 is better - park just before the Seadrift gates and use the short public walkway down to the uncrowded beach.  Plenty of parking on the street if you get there early, like before 10!  About a quarter mile south of main Sinson entrance is Calle Del Arroyo, follow that until it ends at Seadrift gate.

Nice work.  How far off the beach?  Since you say Stinson I'm assuming you were close to the beach, as opposed to out by the buoy.

Probably 1/2 mile off the beach.

Excellent!  Will give it a try soon.

VERY close to Roseville is Lake Natoma.  Not sure how the fishing is but I believe there is a low speed limit.  Was just there for a rowing event and came across Willow Creek Recreation Area.  Easy launch site, flat water, great scenery.

Maybe a little off topic but does anyone know where I could get a replacement center hatch (cover/door only) for a 2005 X Factor?  The new design is "hinged" so the cover is attached to the frame, and I'd like to avoid ripping out all the old rivets from the current frame and installing the new one.  If I did have to do that, how would I/what tools would I need?

General Talk / Ground Transportation options to Rancho Leonero from Airport
« on: February 03, 2017, 04:11:07 PM »
I know a few of you have been down there.  I have a few extra days in between a weekend in San Diego and a work trip to Cabo the following Wed, and was thinking of spending a couple of days at Rancho Leonero.  Their website says $80 one way for a cab if arranged through the hotel.  It's a 45 minute trip, cheaper to Uber SFO to Marin!  Any other options?  Bus to Los Barilles then take a local cab?  Just grab any old cab at the Airport?

I got my X-Factor at Outback Adventures in Marin.  Didn't have any issues with it, or the customer service from the shop at all.

Unfortunately, this location is now closed, been a couple of months now.  I've had an X Factor for over 10 years and love it.  Although it was a bunch of years ago the one support issue I had with them was handled fairly well, although another recent thread on here suggested they are currently under staffed.

I need to replace the cracked center hatch cover on a 10+ year old X-Factor.  Are there any alternatives to buying one new for $75 from Malibu?

I had my son pick me up a couple of these this past weekend, and they are legit.  Clean and almost like new.  And I think the guy has plenty left, go get 'em.  They are a little over $100 after 30% off at West Marine this week, so it's a great deal.

Only the swan ones are good for saltwater.  :smt044

I just KNEW someone was going to post a picture of one of those...

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak crabbing locations?

A paddle from Ft. Baker out under the gate to Kirby or better yet Bonita Cove is doable IF the tide is right (i.e. minimal change between Hi/Lo), wind is down, and you have the right gear, experience, and preferably a buddy.  My avatar pic was taken on this trip.  There are days just about every month where there is only about 1ft difference between high and low tide, usually in the morning which is good for avoiding the wind (except for today!).  Bonita Cove has really good protection from NW surf and it's possible to set traps, beach for a lunch break, then go out and get your crabs.

You don't have to cook them alive. The idea of cooking them alive simply comes from the fact that their meat goes bad very quickly after death. This means hours though, not minutes. There's nothing wrong with splitting a live crab, removing the guts, and then steaming them as usual.

Got it, thanks.
