……since you went off grid……board shenanigans have dropped by 80%, muggles have been posting aimlessly with no supervision and hippies have been infiltrating…..we need more of fishmaster1.

CA Regulations / Re: Commercial Fishing from Kayak« on: June 08, 2023, 08:56:23 PM »
Ron,
I’m not sure how long you’ve been fishing, but you appear to be severely misguided on alot of subjects and I have a hard time understanding how you’re coming to such drastic conclusions. Abalone are “gone” because there was a mass die off attributed to a red tide and algae bloom that plagued the intertidal coast for several weeks. Then the kelp forests that were the food source for the survivors got hammered by storms and urchin, whose population went unchecked because of a seastar dieoff. You can read about it online from any of the Sonoma based news organizations. While poaching was always an issue, it was not THE issue. Considering that there were bad actors around when I was actively diving, there was still a ton of abalone all over the sea floor and getting a limit at any spot was easy. I also wouldn’t consider a handful of old dudes at the pier, the best barometer for measuring halibut populations. The fish are gonna be fine bud, take a breath. 34

………gnar.
I didn’t realize it until I’d watched it a couple times…….dudes leg was dangling in the water behind the impact zone. If that sucker had zero’n on a flailing foot, leg would have been gone for sure. Glad he’s okay. 35
General Talk / Re: What to look for in an ocean fishing rod?« on: May 03, 2023, 11:16:11 PM »https://www.amazon.com/Ugly-Stik-Tiger-Casting-Rod/dp/B01IDEPLV2/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3MR6GMVNESLBH&keywords=ugly%2Bstik%2Btiger&qid=1683124768&sprefix=ugly%2Bstik%2Btiger%2Caps%2C256&sr=8-11&th=1 Alright brother……normally there are no circumstances in which I’d recommend an ugly stick…….but ……..you should get an ugly stick. And ironically enough, I heard a recent suggestion that rod manufacturers should adopt a more uniform rating system based on the maximum drag pounds it takes to shut down the rod blank. Your post kinda implies that same concept……maybe it needs to be adopted lol. 36

Budget? Drifting or trolling? Kayak, boat or both? What reel will it be paired with? Existing rods in your quiver? Will it need to pull double duty in another fishery?

General Talk / Re: CDFW Considers CaliHali Limit Reduction« on: April 16, 2023, 11:50:03 AM »I don't think it is the number of fisherman that determine the overall catch but it is the efficiency most anglers have now. GPS mapping , color depth finders, the ability to mark and return to spots. In the past, offshore fishing depended on reading rock outcroppings, the color of water, and accepting that current with fog would push you off a hotspot into dead zones and one had a hard time re-locating where the fish were. We have entered the electronic era and it is easier to catch fish so yes, reduce limits to whatever makes fishing sustainable. First hand accounts of explorers, merchants and pirates as a means to support reserves…….sounds legit. 38
CA Regulations / Re: Over limit halibut - youtubers strike again« on: April 12, 2023, 03:43:40 PM »
Very controversial subject…..the custody battle following the racial draft has been pretty nasty. Everyone knows that they were officially signed by the Asian delegation but previous agreements, as negotiated by Ol Dirty Bastard, aka Dirt McGirt, aka Russel Jones, has the Wu officially committed to The Children. Sources close to the group say that he was mentally unfit to negotiate the terms. The group points toward incidents like his escape from jail, only to be re-arrested later….on stage….while performing in a rap show. That, or, him rushing the Grammys in protest of Puff Daddy receding the rap album of the year award…..when the whole world knows it should have been the Wu for the Wu Tang Forever double album. Others that witnessed that event, myself included, think it was evidence that he was thinking clearly as it was an injustice to the group and hip hop in general…..and the truest words spoken that night. Not sure how it’s gonna unfold but safe to say, they ain’t up for grabs. 39

On behalf of the Chicano Delegation, we will take him…..but it will be an exchange for every one of ours that refers to themself as LatinX. 40
CA Regulations / Re: Over limit halibut - youtubers strike again« on: April 11, 2023, 07:03:16 PM »This guy is a f***ing idiot. I say we cut the guy some slack since he was just trying to help another angler with fish so he doesn’t have to stay out there too long and put his life at risk. 41
Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Electric Reels« on: April 01, 2023, 11:11:52 AM »I don't get the Desire to fish that deep. Cause I’m tired of sitting in a parking lot full of boats over shallow reefs killing 12-14” fish. I fished plenty before the depth restrictions…..deep water cod isn’t a new concept and I’ll be happy to go back to it. I want an electric reel because of the two hook limits (necessitating more frequent retrieval), cause it opens up the options to fish sablefish, and cause I like cool toys………and cause I’m getting soft in my old age lol, the other day I bought a seat cushion for my office chair. 42
For Sale / Re: MTO Lithium Battery Version_2« on: March 30, 2023, 11:32:09 AM »
I was wondering this myself. Potentially buying an electrical reel to fish deep this year. Was wondering how feasible it would be to build up a battery to wear in a sling or pack when I fish on party boats. Or dare I say it…..a battery built into a rod butt ….minimal cords, no extra packs?!?!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Building a custom SPJ rod« on: March 16, 2023, 01:16:22 PM »Nice!!! What blank are you building on? One of my goals is to pull a bft on the spj this year, I got one shot at them lastvyear( like literally one drop) and nada. I have a black hole jigging rod that I impulse bought cause I couldn’t get my hands on any blanks. I went with phenix megalodon blank (the pe4 I think) waiting for the full spa treatment.
So long as the seat isn’t touching the blank you should be cool….I’m sure you got at least a few arbor wraps under the seat, the blank should have enough room to flex. And it’s in line with my style always mantra…..form and function, why deprive yourself if you don’t have to. |
