General Fishing Tips / Fishing for salmon in the harbor
« on: August 06, 2013, 11:34:57 AM »
I'm looking for tips for targeting salmon inside a harbor?  Will trolling FBR/RSKs work?  I'm assuming the ocean salmon regs also apply inside the harbor - barbless hooks for trolling and BCH for mooching?

General Fishing Tips / Salmon with missing adipose fin
« on: July 22, 2013, 03:35:33 PM »
Two weeks ago I caught a salmon with a missing adipose fin.  It's been in the freezer while I work on getting a Little Chief.  Do I have to worry about swallowing a microchip if I eat it's head?   :cook

Hobie Kayaks / Issue with Mirage Drive
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:34:32 PM »
After a long day on the water, I went to remove my Mirage Drive but couldn't pull it out for some reason.  I finally reached under my kayak and noticed the long bolt that holds my fins to the MD was sticking out half way.  I pushed it back in and was able to pull my drive out, like normal.  Has anyone ever experienced this issue and if so, how did you fix it?  I'll take pictures tonight when I get home, if needed.

Any powerboaters got room on their boat to mothership me to and from the Soquel Hole this weekend or next?  I'll pitch in for gas and help clean your boat afterwards... :smt003

I was thinking about jumping on a charter boat but that's too easy.  I'm itching to catch a salmon on my kayak - gotta practice for GS7.

General Talk / GS7 Fish Cleaning - Save the heads and collars
« on: April 22, 2013, 11:29:25 AM »
Attention GS7 Fish Slayers:

Please save me some of the heads and collars from your big fish especially salmon heads - if you're just going to throw them away.  A couple of us will be making Sinigang (filipino tamarind soup), Cioppino, and maybe more.  Find me or Kiel/Reelknots around the campgrounds if you don't see us by the fish cleaning station.

Also, if you need some assistance turning your Uni/Sea Urchin, Salmon, or Abalone into POKE we'd be more than happy to help you out.

Last year, we made a feast out of the collars but wished we could've saved some of the heads for sinigang.

Thanks,

Jason/Str8fishin

Craftsmen's Corner / Mini Weber Smokey Mountain
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:17:59 PM »
Built mine using this link - use the Smokey Joe Gold and a 12" pizza pan instead of the terracota.  Smoked some wild game with the crew this weekend at Lake Sonoma and it did a great job.  Easy to transport via car or kayak.

Recipes / Okonomiyaki "Japanese Pizza"
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:04:30 PM »
I made some at the Doran crab opener with keilbasa sausage and lobster tail.  The ingredients are pretty cheap and it's easy to cook.

Does anyone know when the commercial crab season opens?  I hope I can make it back out there for dungies before they do.

Thanks,

General Fishing Tips / Fishing near Seattle, WA
« on: September 04, 2012, 04:52:11 PM »
I'll be in Seattle from Sept. 13-17 and have permission to fish 1-2 days.  Any tips on where to fish around this area (within 1-2 hours away)? - I want to fish for halibut, salmon, or something in that caliber.  I was hoping on renting yaks and fishing somewhere OR getting on a charter boat if the bite is good.  I'll post up on NWKA too and thank you in advance.  - Jason
