When my SS that I ordered in May gets here in October (skeptical) I'm already thinking about "jailbreaking" it to a bigger battery so it will actually last a day on the water. Really curious about the results here!

Just wondering (from someone who hardly knows an amp from a watt) - would those charging prongs that stick out of the case be of any use to hook a ff battery to (I suppose it would be good to open and disconnect the old battery, so it doesn't explode.)?

Genius!

The wires from the charging prongs are easily accessible, so I can just connect those to output wires. Then I'll use the charger cable to connect the SS to my FF battery. That saves having to drill into the case, which seemed like the weakest link, as it's likely to eventually leak.

Any thoughts on the best way to butt connect 22 gauge wire? It's inside the SS case, so doesn't need to be waterproof. Maybe these?

Does this work? Easy to test I assume?

In my opinion, the best way is to twist, solder and shrink tube.  That said, the jellybean connectors you linked are also fine as long as the current is low.

I like the solder/seal/heat shrink connectors. I use them for all sorts of things.

Heat shrink for the wires inside the SS might be difficult, as the wires are short and lots of components nearby...

So wait, that's it?  Then you just connect the battery to the charging plug?  That looks clean and also looks like it could all be housed in a much smaller case.  Very cool.

Cool project Professor.
I was wondering if you could take a couple of pictures of your old SS battery pack if you don't mind. I would like to know what type of battery the pack was made with. If you had unwrapped the plastic to expose a better view, that's even better. The reason I asked is because I do not believe the claim that the battery cannot be replaced. If it's made using 18650 cells or LiPo, they can be replaced. From what I could see thru the shell, it might be made with 2x2 18650. And possibly there's a battery protection circuit under the plastic wrap.
I have an SS, but I don't want to open up a perfectly working SS to play with the battery pack. Maybe I should for the name of science?

Thx,
ernest
