Hey everyone, I tried searching this topic and only found really old posts without many comments. I really love camping at boat in sites with my kayak. It gives an opportunity to hang out with friends, fish, and eat good food. I have kayak camped at both Tomales Bay and at Lake Sonoma and had a really good time at both. Both locations are boat in only camping, so I had the feeling of seclusion. I wanted to share this, and also see if anyone else wanted to share other great locations for kayak camping, specifically boat in spots, although I don't mind if you list non boat in sites.

I have done this a lot at lake shasta by boat but took the kayak most recently!! Best suited for fall or spring, before temps become unbearable (and literally kayak melting levels)  I launch at bridge bay marina (and it is a very safe and pleasant parking area, although unpaved, with a guarded entrance and steep but very nice boat ramp so you don't need to lug stuff up and down the hill).  its has a small store and is next to the shasta lakes sheriff for extra security.

You can camp anywhere on the lake, but there are specific boat in campsites available (some closer than others)  I think we did a 9 or 10 mile one way to Greens creek campground (there are some spots with fire pits, benches, tables, bear vaults, and leveled tent areas).

It was really fun, there was fishing around the camp site as well as some beautiful hikes and coves to explore.  We would find all sorts of cool places out there..  Deffo planning to go back this spring!

Englebright lake off hwy 20 is a boat camping only lake. Has sites and beaches for camping. Winding river type lake. Good fishing. We spent a weekend camping there and had a blast.
