-  Boil some spaghetti or angel hair pasta.  And while boiling.....

-  Sautee some chopped garlic in a couple tablespoons of butter.
-  Add the crab butter and broth from the inside of two big steamed or boiled Dungeness crabs
-  Add a dash of cognac or port
-  Add some herbs (I used some dried basil an oregano)
-  Add some chopped mushrooms (I used wild chanterelles)
-  Stir in some heavy cream and simmer to reduce and thicken
-  Toss in some crab meat

Combine the drained noodles and sauce.... and ENJOY!!!!

I took the scaled fish skins off the fillets, cut them into strips, sprinkled salt on them, and deep fried them to tasty crunchy goodness.  You should try it.  You'll like it!

Here's my review of the LifeProof FRE Waterproof Case for my Samsung Galaxy S4 Phone

Manufacturer's Claims:

- Completely Closed to Snow & Ice
- Survives Drops from Up to 6.6 ft

Testing period: 4 months

First Impressions:   Very nice packaging.  The stylist case is barely bigger than the phone itself and it weighs almost nothing at all.  Most cases come with an opaque back, but the FRE model has a clear back which is nice especially if you like the phone's original color and design.  Included in the box is one weatherproof headphone adapter and a microfiber cleaning cloth.

Initial Concerns:  Looking at the two halves of the case and the thin yellow o-ring that rims the case, I couldn't help but have doubts that it's enough to keep out water.  Also of concern to me, was the hinged charger port door, and rubber plug for headphone jack port.  Only time with tell how durable these would be since both will be opened and closed at least several times a day.

Shock Proof:   During the first week, I accidentally dropped the phone on concrete from about 5 feet.  It landed on edged and skidded across the airport tarmac.  I'm sure my phone would sustained significant damage and probably a cracked screen without good protection.  My phone has been dropped several other times since but you can't tell by looking at the case.

Waterproof Testing:  Lifeproof's guidelines for their "pre-installation water test" as suggested in their owners manual reads... "[1] Snap case front and back together.  [2] Close charge port door and headphone jack plug.  [3] Submerge in water for 30 minutes.  [4] Remove, dry, and look inside for moisture."

I did my first waterproof testing after 4 months of use!   Test one ... was the empty case held down with a rock in a 5 gallon bucket water for 30 minutes.  Half hour later, I pulled it out and believe-it-or-not, the inside of the case was dry as a bone. Test two ... was the case tied to the end of 6 feet of fishing line with a lead weight.  I lowered it down off the the dock at my local marina and jigged it up and down and left it submerged for at least 15 minutes.  Again to my surprise, the inside was bone dry!

Sight, Sound, Clarity, and Touch Sensitivity: The clear plastic screen cover, after 4 months, is still like new without any scratches.  I'm not sure what kind of plastic Lifeproof uses, but it's clear, tough, and very scratch resistant.  The camera lens cover must be optical grade because I can't tell the pics are shot through a case.  The touch screen sensitivity is unaffected by the screen cover.  The only thing negative thing I've noticed about the screen is that far right edge where the alphabet appears for your list of contacts is sometimes tough to use with fat fingers or your thumb.  I sometimes have to use my little pinkie, but not a big deal. Sound quality is very good.  In the beginning, I asked callers if they could hear me okay through the new case, and no one noticed any difference.  I'm slightly hard of hearing and even I have no complaints.  There's no notable tinny or muffled noise   that one might expect with sound through a barrier.

The Bottom Line:   This LifeProof case has, so far, met and exceeded my expectations for a good waterproof case.  That says a lot about something I use and depend on everyday, especially for someone like me who works and plays in harsh elements.

We've had NCKA'ers like Tailwalk and EricB land nice halibut and lingcod on handline reels.

I've been wanting to give it a try.  It seems like the ultimate challenge of fishing skill.  I'd like to see us have some kayak fishing hook-ups and derbies around handlines.

The event is a good opportunity for NCKA's (31+) Hobie Adventure Island and Tandem Island owners to meet and sail with other local Island owners.  Fishermen can launch and fish early and later meet on the beach with the other Bay Area Hobie Island owners for a potluck lunch, Hobie schwagg give-away, prize raffle (courtesy of California Canoe & Kayak), and a Island sailing clinic.  After taking a few group photos on the beach, the whole group will launch and sail together just as the wind usually begins to pick up.  New and experienced sailors welcome!

7AM:     Let's go fishing!  Halibut are starting to show up in the area.

11 AM:  Meet on the beach for a potluck lunch, give-aways, waivers, and a basic Hobie Island sailing clinic.

12 NOON:  Take photos on beach and.... Let's go sailing!

*  The event is free.  There is a $5 parking fee and $1 sailing craft launching fee if park kiosk is attended (but it rarely is).
*  Bring your required PFD and VHF Radio if you have one. We'll be on channel 69.
*  Please bring your beach chair and your favorite potluck goodies to share.
