Thanks all for the weather and fishing tips!

I was using the forecast at Cowells beach which looked more promising: https://www.surfline.com/surf-report/cowells/5842041f4e65fad6a7708806?camId=58349794e411dc743a5d527f

I was surprised to see the small craft advisory on Saturday on marine.weather.gov, looks like I need to keep a closer eye on the offshore wind. I've bookmarked the other sites and I'll keep an eye on the forecast before heading out.

Forecast is showing dead flat in Santa Cruz this weekend!

Planning to launch around 8AM on Sunday, probably launching out of the harbor. Goal is to get comfortable on water and try to catch my first fish by kayak. Thinking of targeting kingfish, dabs etc. that I have familiarity with from pier fishing.

Let me know if anyone's interested in pairing up, or looking forward to seeing folks out on the water!

Hi Sharkie!

I'm glad you found a place for your boat. If you have any trips planned over the weekends I'd love an opportunity to deckhand and get out on the water.

I'm not experienced (in fishing or boating) but I'm coachable and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. You can send me a message if you're interested.

If you're ok with it being outdoors you're welcome to stash it in my backyard (Fremont) under a tarp.

I wouldn't charge but i might take it out a couple times if I'm loaning a friend my kayak

General Fishing Tips / Re: Halfmoon Bay South Jetty Tips?

You can park across the street, there's a dirt lot there, or along the side of the road if you arrive early enough.

I usually fish off the jetty rather than crab but I've seen people crabbing. I'd say around halfway to the "bend" is a good place to start. At low tide, you can walk out quite a ways on the sand on the harbor side before you start making your way across the rocks.

The tide isn't much of an issue but keep an eye on the surf forecast. Waves will break over the whole jetty when the surf is high. 3-5' swells is ok.

Also keep an eye out for snags. Keep the rod tip up as you're bringing your snares in or they'll get hung up. There's lots of mussels etc. on the rock there

Hey everyone I'm Steve!

I've been fishing from shore for the last year or so and recently got a used Revo 13. I've been lurking as a guest but excited to join as a member and get out on the water!
