Morel danger - RIP pmmpete

(1/3) > >>

Nolanduke:
I did not know Pete personally - never met him, but his posts were VERY informative and it seemed like he was a bomb kayak fisherman.  Looks like he was poisoned by morels!!

This was one of my favorite pmmpete inventions: https://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=97723.0    :smt044 :smt044

His more useful posts were on downrigger setup.  You can find a lot here, but also on NWKA: https://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=11486.msg128141#msg128141

RIP Pete... hope you're slayin macs somewhere nice

That's very sad and very strange. I guess any kind of food poisoning can be lights out if you are older or have underlying health issues.

Pro-tip: the best way to cook morels or any mushrooms is to "wet saute." Cover with water, bring to a boil, let the water completely boil off, then throw in butter/oil/lard to saute. Much better and more even cooking than "dry saute" and you guarantee they'll be cooked through.

Super sad to hear this news. He helped me enormously in giving advice when I was setting up my downrigger for. Y Revo 16 a few years back.

Seems like it's only the raw ones that hurt you. Yes?
I have some dehydrated ones that I want to eat soon. I've never eaten them after rehydrating and wonder if I should worry, or do a certain way.
