I finally caught my first bass as Lake Natomas today.  Several bites from smaller ones, was able to land two.  The biggest was 3lb 2oz.  Got 'em in the Lagoon through the tunnel on the north end of the lake down at the damn end.  Fun afternoon....

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / What do you wear under your drysuit?
« on: January 28, 2009, 08:31:53 PM »
I just got the Kokatat angler paddle suit, so now I need the undergarment to go with it.  I was going to get a fleece one piece jump suit (or whatever you call them).  What's a good one?  Brands?  Types?  I'm still learning so don't be shy about explaining everything to me!  I don't plan on being out when the air temp it's much below 35-40.

Thanks!

T3 SuperNova Angler Paddling Suit
Placed a special order from California Kayak and Canoe.  600 bones + the governators fee.  Did anyone go to the sports show and see if Kokatat was represented?  I didn't, and I'm going to kick myself if I could have got a better deal!  Still, can't wait to get it so I get out fishing again on bad weather days....  :smt003

Anyone know a safe place to launch on Snodgrass slough?  Want to go there tomorrow, never been, and can't find a launch place on google.  Need some advice from someone with experience...

Thanks

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / My Local Pond
« on: October 19, 2008, 05:20:22 PM »
Okay, Dale L asked, so I decided I would do a report.  This is my first.

I'm fairly new to fishing (haven't fish in 30 years since my dad took me to the river), I got the bug to try LMB fishing a few months back.  I have finally started learning a little, little being the operative word, and most of the times I go out I get skunked.  But I don't care, I love to get out on my kayak, even if I don't catch any fish.

I have many fishing spots close to home, Folsom Lake, Lake Natoma, Sacramento River, American River.  And a few a little farther out, Rancho Seco Lake, Delta, and I've even been up to Union Valley Res.

But this report is about Mather Lake, part of the old Mather Air Base property.

I like it because it's < 10 minutes away, I have a county parking pass, and no motor boats allowed.  It's very weedy, so I can't use my Outback peddle drive everywhere, but I don't fish those areas anyway.

Went out Friday evening 4-7 and this morning 8-2.  Friday evening I got one good bite with no hook up, and landed one < 1lb LMB.  For todays experience I have a funny story.  I was dragging Sencos texas rigged with a light 8lb line along the bottom through the weeds and got a strike.  Wham, set the hook, and the fight began.  This wasn't a monster but he was fighting pretty good and took my worm down.  A couple times he pulled so hard my drag let out a couple feet of line.  I was working him back to the boat for about 15 seconds (seamed like longer, but I know it wasn't) and when he got within a few feet, poof! gone!  WTF?!?!?  Oh $@%#.  I pulled up my line and the worm and hook was completely intact, I never set the hook!!!!  I mean it was perfect, the tip of the hook never exited the worm!  That sucker was fighting me for that worm even though he was not hooked and only let go when he got close to the surface.  I was so disappointed but you gotta laugh!  :smt010  :smt005

Here's a picture of the little one from Friday, LOL!  ;)

Hobie Kayaks / Finally finished Phase I of pimping my Outback....
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:20:07 PM »
I took a bunch of pictures of my mods so I could share.  Most of the ideas I picked up here and there surfing the web.  The only original idea was how I stored my tackle.

5 Rod Holder
Anchor Trolley
GPS/Sonar Mount (still have to commit before I drill the hole for the wires)
Tackle setup in hull
Camera mounts
Larger rudder (a must for true tracking and aggressive authority)
Turbo blades (another must, make sure you leave the adjusters as loose a possible)
Peddle weights

Read the comments for details.  Any questions about anything, please ask!
