Safety First / Re: 8/20 CCK Fishing Kayak Safety Class
« on: September 03, 2017, 09:42:37 PM »
By now the above link is dead, but the CCK site still has kayak fishing classes up.  Do you recommend the surf zone class or the rescue clinic? Obviously both are optimal, but I'm thinking the rescue clinic takes priority for a noob.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Local Tackle & Bait Shops
« on: September 03, 2017, 08:34:15 AM »
Ocean Cove Lings and friends got me hooked.  My brother and father-in-law too, so we are about to spend some dough gearing up.  I'm in Berkeley.  I would really like to support a good local business and not just buy from Amazon.  Any recommendations? First looking for rods, reels and tackle.  Too bad Outdoor Pro in Oakland is closed.

I don't know your area so I can't help in that regard. But there is still the outdoor pro shop in Cotati, up the 101. Maybe stop there on a Sonoma coast trip?
Thanks Don't Rock.  Good idea. Unless there is a shop worth supporting down here, I'll buy there.  We have a house in Timber Cove, so we go up often.

Crazyfisher, the goggles look very cool. I have a Spark on pre-order and may have to splurge on goggles to explore some of the cliffs on the Sonoma Coast.

A while back I saw a video where they spotted big game fish in Australia using FPV,
then dropped the bait right on them.  Seems it would almost take the fun out of it, like hunting from a helicopter.

Thank you all! I can already tell this is a good place to be.  One of those rare places in today's world where people look out for each other. After more than 20 years in law enforcement nothing is more valuable to me.

Be safe, MW

Introductions / Timber Cove
« on: June 03, 2017, 11:19:03 PM »
Well hello,

My wife's family has a cabin a couple hours up the coast in Timber Cove.  Going up and down while building out the property I kept seeing you guys out there in the kelp beds.  So much of the best of my youth was spent fishing (Mostly fresh water) and as a younger man I enjoyed the waves, so I knew I had to get out there.  Next month I'm taking a class from Coastal Kayak Fishing.  In the meantime I'm going to mine all your shared knowledge on this site, so thank you in advance.  I hope contribute one day and be an asset up there.

Be safe.
