Anything is possible! But there hasn’t been a single boat fishing off Monterey this whole week.

I’ll be out there tomorrow and possibly Saturday looking for squid and anything eating them, I’ll let you know what I find. Last I heard squid was shallow by the condos and there were some seabass caught in the area last week.

I hear some fish for boats! Others for fish. Maybe no one’s on it… maybe nothings there. Sounds like an adventure

The rockfish and lingcod bite was pretty good. Not that it matters.

Found a good amount of squid in 100-110ft in front of el torrito on cannery row. Fished there a few hours and no signs of seabass. Then I went to the hotel and the same story except a few lings. Decided to finish the day putting around for halibut and only got one in the 30” range which was released. I’m gonna go looking just outside the kelp off cannery row tomorrow. We’ll see what happens.

Only the halibut master Todd is unimpressed by getting a 30" halibut  :smt044

I launched from MBK around 8 and me and Sonny each had a halibut in the bag before 9. His was 28lbs and mine was 15. Both caught around 300 yards off the tip of the coast guard, just out of the boat lane, in 60ft of water. We decided to look for squid/seabass after that. Found a huge mass of squid in front of el torrito in 100 ft with sardines and smelt on the surface all around us. I floated a squid about 40 ft down and had another on a long dropper loop with about 8ft to my weight and dragged it on the bottom for a few hours and Nothing. I went around the outside of the kelp in front of cannery row then drifted straight out to 120ish ft before coming in. Didn’t mark anything or get any takers besides a few rockfish when I drifted into the structure in about 120ft.

I’m starting to think it’s not worth “targeting” seabass anymore. Just gotta be a right place right time kind of thing.
