For Sale / New Harken Hoister Storage System - $100
« on: February 09, 2011, 05:28:32 PM »
Fellow NCKA-ers,

Is your garage filled with so much stuff there's no room for the car? Here's a practical solution. Go vertical! With the Harken Hoister you can store car top recreational equipment up and out of the way.

Here are a few storage ideas for this 4-Point lifting system: kayaks, canoes, dinghies, cartop sports equipment carriers, Jeep tops, truck caps, or storage shelves.

Best of all, you can hoist/lower these large items onto your car by yourself. A self-locking, ball bearing block system prevents accidental release - even if you drop the line.

Part No. = 7803B
# of Lifting Points = 4
Working Load Limit = 145 lbs
Min. Lifting Load = 45 lbs
Max. Vertical Lift = 10 ft
Mechanical Advantage = 6:1

This top of the line system retails for $150, but I'm willing to part with it for $100. I'll also throw in the additional mounting hardware I picked-up from Home Depot for your installation.

Why I'm selling it... After getting it home and reading the manual I determined that I could not use it in my garage because I have a drop-down beam that "gets in the way". The hoist itself is still untouched, in the box.

If you're unfamiliar with this hoist just Google it and you'll quickly discover that it's one of the top of the line product of its type!

Thanks!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Best All Around Saltwater Rod and Reel
« on: December 08, 2010, 05:09:34 PM »
Thanks again everyone - After weighing the price and availability options, I ended up with the following Ugly Stik Tiger rod from Sports Authority for $50:

BWC 2200 70    7'0"    1    C    ML    12-30    1/2-4    8 + Tip

Which I'll suggest he pair with either a revved-up Penn 500/501 Jigmaster (a la Alan Tani) or an Abu 5500/6500 series reel.

Excellent, thanks for the pointer Mooch!

Jay, thanks for your advice... I'll check out the Shimano Clarus Hotshot - I might be able to justify a few extra bucks since he's family  :smt111

Just saw the "blurb" on the morning news today so logged-in here to get the full scoop... Adam/FishHunter - Story of a lifetime! Glad you're the one around to tell it!

I see why they call it "Paradise"... Great pics, food and fun! Sorry I missed it - Was busy with our daughter's 'Sweet 16'.

Best,

Guys,

Mark (now known as "yard sale") and I had a blast yesterday. It was great meeting everyone and putting faces to the names. Thanks for all of your generosity (the food and the knowledge)! We're looking fwd to getting out on the water with the crew soon...

Jeff (a.k.a. Steelerhead)

GB2, Chuck... Having only had my Trident 15 local fresh water + the Elkhorn Slough to date, I wasn't sure if I'd put her in this weekend. Regardless of that, I will *DEFINITELY* be driving up to meet some fellow NCKA-ers for the first time. It's still Saturday AM, correct?

Best,
Jeff (a.k.a. Steelerhead)

12
Hi Chuck! Count me + my bro-in-law (Mark) in. We won't be camping on Friday night. Just the Saturday festivities. Thanks for organizing this event!

Jeff (a.k.a. Steelerhead)

Great to see that everyone had such an awesome outing! Given that I spent the weekend nursing my lower back I used the time to finish rigging my buoys and drop line... Which forced me to learn how to do an eye splice. I found the following two sites pretty helpful:

http://www.animatedknots.com/splice/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com
http://coastsidefishingclub.com/crabbing

Thanks again for the report guys!

Looking at http://marine.geogarage.com/routes looks like 60' is about right, doesn't drop off to the 80-100' mark until you move beyond the "Southeast Reef".

Oh DAMN! This is exactly what I'd been waiting for but seriously "wrenched" my back last weekend and still recovering. Please post a report and take pics. GOOD CRABBING TO ALL!

Catch you all next time,
Jeff (a.k.a. Steelerhead)
