Here's the one I realeased.  Best figher!

Every anchovy in the bag got bit today--shoulda taken two bags!  Hit Shelter Cove this morning after a rough bout with a 24' hour flu over the weekend--sorry we couldn't do it yesterday, Pescadore, because they got 'em then too.   :smt009  Next time for sure.   :smt002  I thought to go very early due to last night's call of 10-20 knots, but this morning's report was "variable" again   :smt003, so I rested my post-flu body a bit more and hit the beach at just before 9.  Started fishing in about 40' on the way out to the bell and had a light hit quick--it seemed more salmony than rockfishy--that was at 15 pulls.  I only had a line out more than 20 pulls once.  The rockfish were all up and down the water column--got a black at 3 pulls once even when I tried to get away from them.  Luckily there were salmon there too.  I landed, photo'd, released a shaker, more rockies, then, at the 30 minutes in mark, got a 5#'er in the net.  How nice to drown the skunk early.  More action for the next 20 minutes when I netted another of about 6#.  I thought about it a minute, decided that I wasn't ready to call it quits at an hour and that if I didn't get another one in the net it would be worth it to keep fishing.  What conditions--wow~!  It was a day to dive too, but I had to go get some work done.  I had several other rockies and salmon, but no salmon in the net again, until I ran out of bait--the bite was still wide-open at that point, so it was rough to leave--I didn't have an artificial with me or I would've stuck it out for another 30 minutes anyway...  At the cleaning table I talked with three PB guys out of Trinidad who had limits of 10# class--they had been about a mile farther out at 40' with lead.

Sounds like a good time, Guitarzan.  Glad you had fun and scored some abs and fish.   :smt001

WTG, Gabekap!  Nice score.   :smt001

JohnM:  I too have been wondering about the historical trends of where the fish are at what time of year, how big, how deep...etc.  I wonder if an accurate tracking of salmon in the ocean will be achieved in our lifetimes...  Or, here's a good one, how about steelhead?!!   :smt002

Nice bass!  I'm with John M., I've always wondered how that little lake is so packed!  Or it may just be that Sean is so dialed...   :smt002  Good fish karma is powerful stuff.   :smt004

My dad told me his nice one turned out to be 11# gilled and gutted--he took it to Mr. Fish to smoke.  I won't blow it on the fish photos next time!   :smt012

Nice work on the solo effort, John--you'll get 'em.

I too like the bait better than the lures--more natural, and salmon seem to be kind of finicky...  and it may be true that once the bite is on fish'll come easier on any given offering, but I feel that bait is always better with salmon--probably just because that's how we've been doing it in my family forever...  The hoochie is a great thing to have--my dad had his quick hook-ups running the double hook chovie and a hoochie--he says, "at least you're still fishing if you lose your chovie..." and it's a good point.  After he hooked up so quickly and then bailed to shore I became somewhat uptight about my bait presentation, trolling speed, direction of troll...etc.!  Once I got a fish in the bag I was feeling much more confident.  Again, I feel really lucky to have been able to fish at 20 pulls--checking your bait and other self-checks would really suck when you're fishing deep...

If we get a real period of nice water anytime soon you can call me for a Cove trip!   :smt001

At one point I hooked up with a large blue rockfish - I looked down through what must've been at least 40' viz at about 1.5 miles from shore and there were fish everywhere!

Nice launch at 10:30AM.

Good eye, Stuart!  I was enjoying Sierra's cousin, Steelhead!  Sierra Nevada's my favorite, Fishunter!  My treat if we hook up!  I wanted to post more photos of on the water and such, but my dial-up was too slow, so it kept cancelling my new upload due to a new reply arriving...  I'll post some photos tonight.

Finally got 'em today!   :smt001  My dad went with and I let him use my Scrambler XT--I used my Mainstream Tango, tandem.  What a barge!  I had my challenges due to that boat, but we got our fish.  He got his limit in about 30 minutes of trolling near the bell (about a mile out).  He went in and I had to hang out about 2 more hours to get mine.  I had a few on that I didn't get in--one due to having to mess with getting the net ready...  It felt good to set him up with the better boat though.  He's a long-time fisherman and even commercially fished salmon from a dory out of Humboldt Bay in the early 70's, so he knows his stuff and showed it today.  His first fish was about 12# and it was towing him around as I tried to come alongside, grab his net and assist.  I netted it and we were stoked.  20 pulls with a deep six, flasher and double-hook chovie rig.  20 pulls!!!  I'm sorry; not trying to rub it in, but I hear you guys talking of the deep fish down there right now and I feel very lucky to be able to get fish that shallow.  Anyway, he went on to get about a 6-7#er before going in.  I scratched and scratched--didn't lose gear today, but missed about 4-5 fish before getting my first in, and it was only around 5-6 #.  Picked up another, barely legal--around 4#, and headed in.  It was 70 degrees on the beach and we had a few cold brews in the cooler, but I spaced on the fish photos...  What a relief it was to finally bring some fish home after 3 trips down there this year, fish-on but not landed each trip.  I had my ab gear in the truck, but it was not a good day for diving--mud water and swells nearshore...
