Clayman, how do you like your AquaGlide Blackfoot?  I just got word that we'll be getting one (the XL model and some extras like an electric air pump) as a top prize for the ORC.

Yes, the last day to register for the Oregon Rockfish Classic this year will be July 5th.   We are at about half capacity at the moment and because the ocean was blown out last year we think a lot of people are waiting until they know the marine forecast before registrating.   As an organizer, this is problematic for figuring out logistics.

If the ocean is uncooperative there is salmon and steelhead fishing in the river right at the Chinook Bend Campground and we'll switch to a tournament for those.  Last year several were landed by those that were smart enough to bring salmon gear.

Does Sturgeon have them?

My understanding Sonny is that all bony fish have them but they are bigger in some species than others...

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Sturgeon doesn't have bone (not bony fish) that's why I am curious if they have them.

Gotcha! I have no clue then.  :smt005

Despite having quite a bit of cartilage, Sturgeon are considered bony fish (i.e. in the superclass Osteichthyes) and do have otoliths.

Here's where I would go to find more details.

http://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/CollectionInfo.aspx?SpeciesID=679&State=CA

According to the notes in the link above...  the muskies where placed there in 1893 to eat another invasive species, the common carp.  They muskies were then eradicated when sea lions were also placed in the lake to help eradicate the carp.

You need to add it as "overlay data".

It's page 12 of the manual.
http://www.lowrance.com/Root/Lowrance-Documents/US/ELITE-5X-7X_HDI_OM_EN_988-10652-001_w.pdf

1.) From the sonar, chart or downscan page, press Menu
2.) Select "Overlay Data" and press "Enter"
3.) Select "Configure" and press "Enter"
4.) Press "Menu" and select "Add" and then press "Enter"
5.) Select "Date/Time" category and press "Enter"
6.) Select "Time" and press "Enter"
7.) Press "Menu" and select "Return to Overlays".  Press "Enter"
8.) Press "Menu", select "Done Configuring" and press "Enter"

That coloration is typical of the spring brown trout in the great lakes.

Yeah, the bodegahead.blogspot.com site is a great blog about the natural history of the Bodega Bay area.  I highly recommend looking through the archived posts.

I manged to update DOTY during my lunch break today.  I will do the same with AOTY tomorrow during lunch.

I also ordered a new laptop for home so I can handle some of this stuff in the future while not at work.

Sorry Guys, I've been bogged down with work and other obligations.   Things should calm down soon, but my boss is in Australia and keeps pinging me for last minute data analysis and graphs for his upcoming talk.

I will get this up soon. I managed to get NWKA running late last week and I just need about 2 hours to finish with NCKA's AOTY and DOTY.   I have everything I need from Jim (new logos, new rules, etc)..

I always hear "big net" is a must from experienced salmon anglers.
What consider big net?
Wouldn't be it too cumbersome on the kayak?

I'm going to be stepping up to a "big" net this year as well.  Basically, as big as you can find.

I was told to cut the handle shorter so it's more manageable.

Don't be shy of using a really big net.  Protip: it doubles as a hammock back on the beach.
