If I use a slow pitch metal jig for salmon do i have to use a single barbless "circle" hook or can i use a regular pinched barb hook?

CA Regulations / Stupid salmon reg question time
« on: June 03, 2018, 05:52:48 PM »
Horse Mountain to Point Conception: When fishing with bait and angling by any means other than TROLLING1, no more than two single-point, single-shank barbless CIRCLE HOOKS 2 shall be used. The distance between the two hooks must not exceed 5 inches when measured from the top of the eye of the top hook to the inner base of the curve of the lower hook and both hooks must be permanently tied in place (hard tied).
NOTE: These special gear restrictions apply to each angler fishing for salmon or fishing from any boat or floating device with salmon on board.

TROLLING is defined as angling from a boat or floating device that is making way by means of a source of power, other than drifting by means of the prevailing water current or weather conditions.
A CIRCLE HOOK is defined as a hook with a generally circular shape and a point which turns inwards, pointing directly to the shank at a 90-degree angle.

Question, "other than trolling"  what are the hook regs for trolling.  I guess it does not apply to us but I do not see any trolling regs...

My friend wants to get one and part of me wants to talk him out of it.  He is drawn to the standing capability, but correct me if I'm wrong, standing seems overrated, unless you're that bass guy?

My 50th is coming up and my wife is asking what I want.  Other kayak...noooo storage, to pricey, resigned to paddle...but...debating entering the gopro scene.  Not too tech savvy but can learn.  Need new computer to handle to editing, expensive hobby?  I love the vids fellow fisherman post here and learn so much.  How's the learning curve and what is the basic investment for storage and unit, time commitement? :smt006

General Fishing Tips / Tide current drift control
« on: February 07, 2018, 08:45:07 AM »
When I was in Tomales recently, with the wind and current, we flew through the drift.  Yes, drift sock application would have helped because there was wind, but the wind was going the same direction as the current(tide), so no help at all, if I had one.  I was thinking about dragging a 2-3lb ball on paracord to slow the drift, in SF bay also, so I can work an area better. The drift can be so fast in the tide, no wind, that I have to reset so soon that I wear myself out getting back to original drift beginning.  Thoughts?
