26 mi troll plus a few getting to the outside

26miles?!?  What's your record?  When are you planning on paddling out to the Farralons and back?

Also, are you catching the lings while trolling / mooching?  Are lings becoming pelagic?  Or are you simply in need of a fishfinder?

-- Dave

Dux Reef and the stretch down to Muir are full of lings, just drop whatever you're trolling to the bottom and crank up a few

I used to do it with the flasher/rsk combo when my wife is sick of salmon, the problem there is alot of times the lings grab the flasher

The fbr's work great for it tied up with dbl barbless it's easy to release what you dont want

I e-mailed BFranko about it a few years back but it's really only practical on a kayak

Conditions were windy and nasty getting to the outside but outside was low wind

good news is I didn't drop much lead, bad news is brought home no salmon

threw the ling & rockfish back since we're overloaded with ling right at the moment Little shark of some sort with really bad temperament and 2 big spikes sticking up out of it's back which it was intent on stabbing me with while I struggled to set it free, little bastard

f&g gave me the cordial once over

26 mi troll plus a few getting to the outside, can anybody spell 'fool'?

ChuckE

finished smoking a batch of indian candy pretty good, I went a little heavier on the molasses

late start for Dux

Blue... I'm just curious.  Why do you prefer trolling versus mooching for salmon?
I love mooching I just did it for so many years I needed a change

and speaking of so many years it gets harder to stay in shape, trolling 2lbs for 8hrs or so is a good solid workout and there's no deli close by

Those fish are getting dangerously close to Moss, still on the deep side
I might try one of those other beaches

Seabreeze that's a sandy beach?

Sounds like fish are deep

Anyone know about  Indian Head Beach or Marina State Beach? Either would be a pretty straight shot out to the #s

Just got a call that a decent bite started about 3 days ago, about 6 miles from the "mile bouy".

Yesterday's limit was 6 Kings, releasing 3 silvers.  All fish were BIG.  18lb average with one BIG fish going 32lbs.  These fish were all caught on the troll.

I talked to a guy at FW who's been fishing down there today, complicates the decision for the week - toss the coin MB or Dux

Dux should be putting out fish like that right now but the silvers are thick as heck

By the way the northside bite is a great mooching bite, the one boat that was doing good had 3 guys mooching and they were hooking up faster than I was

I might even carry along some mooching hooks  Haven't mooched in 6 years

General Fishing Tips / Re: Long or short handled net

The Stowmaster nets are pretty good not cheap but you shouldnt be cheap about the net anyway

The blue one has telescoping handle right about where you see the leash attached so you have the option if you want more length. I use it stretched out

18" is legal minimum but won't cut it if you have anything big on

Forget about montara if the weather's looking good you guys should shoot straight out from your home turf a few miles

pretty tempting but the Dux magnet is pulling, silvers or not

At least it sounds like fish are coming around

If the offshore winds die down I might try offshore from LM next week

I need to figure out some strategy to convince my wife that Saturday's a great day for me to be out fishing

that dark cypress photo is pretty choice

Actually if I had any real sense I would've taken along a few mooching rigs instead of dropping all that lead With all the reports about silvers I filled up my lead bag and threw a couple into my bait bag besides Not so good for the water quality

2 boats fishing not too far from the area where the fish were, sitting there waiting for the fish to arrive

I paddled over to see what was up a bunch of guys standing around mooching and looking miserable in the bumpy water, no fish

3rd boat had more moxy they were moving around and sticking fish everywhere they stopped

PB saw me hook up and came over but left right after I landed the fish, must not have seen enough bait on his ff

The hot bite that was there the last couple of days dispersed  Somebody on Coastside reported an early bite off of Tenessee Valley beach which might make an interesting jaunt from Muir

A lot of options and none of them sure thing Hope it picks up soon

jselli

same conditions up at Muir, mixed up as hell but the wind is all happening offshore Bumpy ride and I had one eye on the conditions outside all day thinking it was going to hit hard but never did Only got maybe 2 miles offshore

The paddle from Pedro to Montara isn't that bad I've hit it from both sides but it never seems to pay off

If I was going to put that mileage in right now I'd be more inclined to go straight out from either HMB or LM

A little bit of luck involved there but seems like you'd run into something along the way

2 6lb kings & a 10lb ling All on herring fbr except for last silver and gohome king had to use wma

6 or 8 silvers and as many lings tossed back Between the silvers and lings I destroyed 5 hand tied fbrs and had to use a wma for the last salmon

A tad bumpy but the wind never really materialized
