Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Rockaway 8/6
« on: August 08, 2022, 12:26:50 PM »
I heard yesterday the salmon were real picky with the anchovy bite. I know a bunch of people were hooking up using apex, hoochie, and yes, herring. Herring was outperforming anchovy. Yesterday was also a good exercise in salmon identification; lots of coho in the mix.

Hey guys looking for anyone who wants to join me fishing HMB for bottomfish tomorrow (Saturday, June 4). This will be my first time out in the ocean this year. Conditions seem pretty solid, with manageable swells and wind, but all the same it'd be nice to have a buddy. I'm sure there will be others out there too!

Safety First / Re: Missing Kayaker - Mavericks/HMB

The guy is OK. He flipped the day before on Tuesday, lost his seat, his fish, his paddle, among other things. He made it back though. I sent him the link. He called the coast guard to let him know he was OK. He was asked to describe the items that were found to confirm. Happy ending.

Dang KPD nice score.

It might be normal. I just picked up a new Hobie GT Kickup mirage drive and the idler/front pulley cables are SUPER tight. The rear pulley cable has more play.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Best fish/depth finder

I'm not sure about other brands but Humminbird electrical connections have been really annoying and constantly falling out of the fish finder.

I have this problem too. With the Humminbird, I just bungee near the power cable connection to the fish finder mount, that way even if i kick or move the cable, the power connection stays put.

The Striker had a similar problem where if you put dialelectric grease on the power connection, it tended to slip out.

I upgraded from a Garmin Striker 4 to the Humminbird Helix 5. I like the screen size, much easier to read than the Garmin but without being too large. I do like the maps too, they're great. I think it was worth the cost. I paid around $320 + tax for mine new during Black Friday.

This is the exact model I got: Humminbird Helix 5 Chirp DI GPS G2 Nav+ Fishfinder 410220-1NAV (from Walmart)

General Talk / Re: covid vaccine experience?
« on: April 14, 2021, 11:10:51 AM »
I had my first Pfizer vaccine about 2 weeks ago and developed major itchy hives all over my body the day after. Although not as bad as before the hives are still there. Maybe I'm a bit allergic to something in the cocktail but I am still advised to take the second vaccine since my symptoms aren't life threatening. I got my vaccine at Richmond (part of the Contra Costa County health program).

Hey Krishna let me know what you think of the quality when you receive the tramps! They indeed do sell singles and at a pretty affordable price.

Hobie only sells as a set and it's quite expensive. The alternative for myself would be buying an aftermarket one. Let me know if you are willing to sell one!

What is that white sheet material you have underneath your kayak and go pro mount?

3 layers of Gorilla Tape lol. I used an entire roll. Applied it in 2018 and haven't had to change it.

CCK in Oakland. Apparently they've sold enough of the AI ama mods to Revo owners that they already have a pre-assembled list of components. I called in, told them the model and year of my Revo, and they gave me a price quote. I had done some research beforehand and had a list of stuff, but I don't think it was necessary.

I have a similar situation. I share my fishfinder with my dad and his canoe. I have the power cable permanently installed since extra power cables are really cheap. For the transducer I gooped a GoPro mount to the side of my kayak and clip/unclip the transducer. It has been through ALOT (including some terrible surf launches and landings).

I have a Revo 11 which sadly does not have a built-in transducer mount.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Budget Salmon Rod
« on: October 18, 2020, 04:01:30 PM »
I use a Daiwa Saltwater VIP. It's similar to the North Coast but has a foam handle instead of cork. I use the 7ft 10-25lb model. The 8ft is better but I'm only 5'4" and I think my arm span isn't long enough to deal with an 8 footer on the kayak. Deadlifted an exhausted thresher shark this year that was dragging sand after a long battle and this rod didn't break!
