Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Clear lake on Friday
« on: November 07, 2016, 12:37:01 PM »
Well, I launched at the State park and had a day and a half on the water and really enjoyed fishing the perimeter of Soda Bay. I found a few small bass but nothing even close to picture worthy. I didn't see any other fisherman catching much, and there was a lot of them! Fishing pressure like nothing I've experienced before. A slow kayak is no match for the many PBers when trying to queue up for a small patch of shoreline to fish.
I'm aware of the other marinas I could check out, but I'd really like to hear of other launches and fishing spots preferrred by kayakers. Rattlesnake or Redbud arms? I'm definitely going to make a few trips there this winter.

That's great advice, many thanks!! I've stopped by the store and collected an arsenal, so if I'm not getting hits I will always have something else to try.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Clear lake on Friday

Informed my boss that I will likely have a fever on Friday, so I'm going to Clear lake to get some therapy. Launching from the State park and fishing between there and Shag Rock. Fishing reports sound prettty good, despite cloudy brown water.
The drop shot is my go-to rig of choice, followed by jigs, but having never fished Clear lake before (in November!), maybe a NCKA'er could suggest some other bass  lures which might be productive this weekend? I've got jigs galore for crappie, and mackerel for channel cats, but primarily want to get some bass.
Company is always appreciated too. Cheers!

It was 2 hours past low tide. Pacific halibut season closed the 23rd but California halibut is open all year.

I launched on the rocks at the end of the jetty (ugh), and remained within 100 yds of the harbor rock wall where the fish were congregating. 10-20 ft ish? Followed the terns to find em. After 1.5 hours all the action died so I caught bait and trolled for hali butt no luck.

Had a good day on Saturday launching off Tiburon. Caught 20+ stripers in the early a.m. on plastics. All were between 13-18 inches.
If I can't get quality I'll be happy with quantity.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Lakes to fish (with Kayak) in the Bay Area

Lake Sonoma!
I believe you can also paddle a portion on Putah creek where it goes flat close to Vacaville.
Don't forget Clear lake

Hooking into a thresher would be pretty exciting, however heavier gear and a bit of help would certainly be required. And yes, current and wind are serious factors to consider in that spot.
I'm heard of Ling and Rockfish being caught in the bay, but I expect in deeper water than I typically fish. I'll hit that spot again and see what I hook into.

Had another great day on the water yesterday, launching off of Paradise Beach park. Little wind and no waves made for great conditions. Came home skunked yet again, but saw lots of seals, sea lions and jumping Thresher Sharks!!! Coolest thing I have ever seen on the water! They were breaching all over the place, jumping vertically out of the water. One launched only 10 feet from my bow! OMG I so wanted to hook into one. Wow.
I spent most of my time trolling and drifting for Halibut across most of the eastern shore of the peninsula, which was generally in the 10-20 foot depth, but rounding the point just beyond the Paradise pier it quickly drops down to 80+feet. I was wondering if there are other species to target at this depth, in this area, like Ling, Rockfish and Sevengill shark. Im aware that this can be an area to target for salmon, but was thinking more about bottom dwellers. Would love to hear if anyone have different catch experiences around that area.
Lots of boats around at the same time, but neither they nor the guys on the pier seemed to be pulling anything in. Next time......

Introductions / Newbie saltwater convert
« on: May 21, 2016, 07:21:13 AM »
Hi folks! Just joined the site and looking forward to sharing my kayak fishing adventures and hearing about yours.
I've been a mostly freshwater fisherman my whole life, but had been doing more striper fishing from shore for the past couple months. I've always had a WS tarpon 130 tandem, so I took it out by San Quentin and caught 5 leopard sharks within 45 minutes and I am now absolutely hooked on saltwater kayak fishing! Just upgraded my boat to an OK trident 13 and can't wait to get back on the water!
Hope to see y'all out there-
