The newer hull/deck design is a such a big improvement. Except for the rudder IMO

The deck layout, with all the built on rails, is what got me - makes ot super easy to customize without a whole buncha DIY futzin and drillin. The rudder isn’t terrible, but yea.  I’m going to upgrade to a metal rudder of some sort after this season. I’ve been yearing the helloutta mine - been fishing more than ever “thanks” to covid.

Yeah, I bought mine with bass fishing in mind. I have a Revo16 dedicated for ocean fishing except crabbing. What I hate about that rudder design is how it sticks out. You need to be mindful when moving it around or when launching and landing. Other than than, I really like it.

Thanks for the heads up. I planned to walk it down from the little turn off right before the lot (attached). I like to get on the water early which I assume means before they open the gates (google says 7:30 am).

You won’t make it. That’s more of a cliff than a hill. Also that’s more of just a parking lot than a day use. Not sure I’ve ever seen the gate closed there. Personally I would launch at the campground just north of there. Gates don’t close. Put your money in the iron ranger. Or if targeting bass go out of capell cove which opens at 4am or something like that.

+1. I launched out of there when it was drizzling and it was so sketchy I almost rolled down that cliff. I think it’s $15 to launch out of Putah.

Just remember, when you flip in the surf or rough open ocean, you only have split seconds to right your kayak and get back on it. I wouldn’t want to waste precious time scrambling where these leashes were anchored to.

Dielectric grease on the connections? As for the wire splices, use shrink tubes and on top of that, coat it with liquid electrical tape.

I was in Clear lake by the state park a few weeks ago and that creek where the crappies where usually spawning was really shallow, as in 1-2ft deep only
