Just wanted to introduce myself, I’m Rodney or Fishin_Rod or 46Wilyz in the rock crawling world. I joined here 12 years ago and never committed to getting a kayak until a couple months ago. I bought my first kayak, I have a Radar 135 pedal drive. I live pretty close to Melones Reservoir but have always loved fishing for halibut, striper, sturgeon, rockfish and salmon. I sold my big boat a few years ago and now have a 16’ dual console aluminum boat and my kayak. I’ve been having fun catching trout out of my kayak and looking to try for some larger fish and crabs. Hopefully maybe meet some people here that would not mind me tagging along at some point.

Welcome, FR.
A few more posts, and you'll be averaging one per year...

Thanks for the welcome, and I’ll try to get my post count up! Tomorrow we are heading to HMB to camp for a couple nights. The weather and swell doesn’t look great, but I’ll probably drop some nets inside the jetty. I’ve caught crabs inside before when the water was to rough for my 14’ Valco to get out.

Hey Rodney,
Show us you Willies! :smt002
My buddie has a place near Tamarack so I
know you've got some great trails and lakes up there. I'm nearing the end of my 69 FJ40 build and hope to get up to your area for some wheeling eventually.
Congrats on the kayak and see you OTW!

Sick! Looks like a section of the Rubicon I've only seen in videos.
My 40 is not going to be that hard core but it's going to be much more capable than stock and I did some fun stuff with it when it was stock. I'll hit you up once I get it road/off-road worthy.
And I will say it's not a waste of time to try for halibut in the harbor as well if you can't get out the jaws at HMB

I do plan on trolling the harbor area while I soak the hoops. We are heading over in the morning, should be in camp by noon if they let us in early??
Your rig will be great and fun to play with offroad. There is definitely trails up here you will be able to run without issue, just hit me up when you’re ready.
I wheel with some Land Rover guys too, (Scully Offroad) and they are surprisingly capable rigs.
