You are right it is July 9th.  I should have confirmed before posting.  I will be moving to the Beaverton area.  Will you be making the trip up?

Thank you Darius, it will be a crazy journey, I will be driving a u haul pulling my wife's Jetta.  A little nervous to go over the Siskiyou pass

It will be my 4th ORC.  A few LCKA folk will be there, we've been making the trip and Depoe Bay is a great place to fish out of.  Its a great event.

What day are you heading over Siskiyou pass?

Awesome!  Well i look forward to meeting you crash.  I will be heading over on the 27th of this month.

Hello NCKA!

I will be moving back to Oregon to be closer to family.  I know i have not met many of you but i have learned a lot from all of you.  I have been on this site nearly every day for the last 6 months but have not posted a lot.  I have enjoyed learning from you all and am excited to take what i have learned and use the skills in Oregon.  I have joined NWKA and have enjoyed a similar forum.  They don't post as much as NorCal but still have great info.  If any of you guys come to Oregon drop me a message and i would be happy to go fishing with you all.  Also, the Oregon Rock Fishing Championship is in June and it seems to be a really cool tournament.  Hope some of you will make the trip up.

Have a great day!

Just an observer her but i would side with Cabeza de Martillo.  There is a lot of knowledge on this site, i dont know about telling my friends not to sign up is the best idea for their fishing success.  However. if they are like you and rude to long time members, then maybe they are best not on the site

I am also from Modesto areas and recently purchased a kayak.  We should meet up sometime and check out the local areas.  I dont get out enough to make it to the coast and would like going local.

Hey Kym,

I am also from Modesto.  I got my kayak this year and have enjoyed it.  It has been a while since i went out last because i need to get a new roof rack for the new car.  Let me know when you get your yak togethere and we could drive up to a local reservoir to check it out.

General Fishing Tips / San Joaquin/ Tuolomne River
« on: October 27, 2015, 10:55:42 AM »
Hello All,

After having my car break down i am on a budget and need to stay close to home.  My new car does not have a roof rack so i am going to put the foam pads on top of the car until i can afford a roof rack.  Therefore, I can not travel too far.  I currently live in Modesto and have always wondered about the fishing off the San Joaquin and the Tuolomne river.  I often see people riding there bikes with fishing poles and assume they are fishing at one of those two rivers.   I beleive that it is bass, catfish, and carp.  Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on the river or how to catch the species that live in it?  Any tips or advice would be great.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Sorry it has taken me so long to post my report.  A rod in my engine broke on the way home so i have been working on getting a new car.

The trip was fun.  I drove out to Pebble Beach and got there at 6:30 in the morning.  It took me a while to get ready as this was my first launch.  I was followed by a harbor seal for thge first hour and a half of fishing.  I went north of bird poop rock and fished in the kelp for about 2 hours and then moved to the south side of the cove.  I did not fish very well.  Only a couple rock fish.  I got caught up on the bottom and had trouble finding the fish.  I began to get a little seasick so i decided to head in at around 11.  I hope to get back out there soon.  Hoping that a new car doesnt kill my budget and time to get out on the water.  I saw a group out on the water sunday.  Hope everyone had a safe journey

I am going to get at sws at around 6:30. I am staying at a hotel not far from the beach. I need to stop at an atm to get the ten dollars.

I have practiced I took the yak to Modesto reservoir for a half an hour of play. I can't make it up to Santa cruz. I am doing a half day as well and have to be in Carmel for lunch. if you don't have the funds I can refund your pass. It is worth a fishing partner for the day. I am a newbie  and would not mind someone with experience joining me. I am planning on being there at 6:30 and launching near 7

General Fishing Tips / Re: SMCA vs SMR Pebble Beach
« on: October 08, 2015, 10:13:37 AM »
Yep, that SMCA is all good for fishies. Just no invert take...so if diving can't take scallops or crabs or GPO until North of pescadero point and outside the SMCA.

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for the clarification Jim!

General Fishing Tips / Re: SMCA vs SMR Pebble Beach
« on: October 08, 2015, 10:13:02 AM »
Thanks for your help!  If i am reading that correctly then as long as i stay within the bay i should be safe to go after rockfish and ling cod.  Does anyone have any tips on where to paddle from launch to get to a good area?  I have read that if you head north from the pier that there are better reefs then the soutside.  I was able to purchase the radio and other essentials to be safe.  The fishfinder will have to wait until later when i have the proper funds to purchase.  Therefore, any tips will help!  I have been told that if i find kelp then i have found rock structure.  Is that generally the case?

Thank you for your help

Zach

General Fishing Tips / SMCA vs SMR Pebble Beach
« on: October 08, 2015, 10:03:27 AM »
Hello,

I have been looking at the regulation quidelines on SMCAs and SMRs at pebble beach.  Below is a link to the map i have been using  http://www.dfg.ca.gov/m/MPA/Map.  The SMCA takes up the entire SWS cove (highlighted in blue).  The SMR is highlighted in red off the coast.  My questions is are we able to fish the cove where it is SMCA.  I apologize for the newb question, in the past i have fished mostly from rivers and lakes.

The wife put a stop to me going on Sunday because that is the day we check out of the hotel.  I am locked in for Saturday.  Anyone available to go fishing?
