Elk is too far off for another get together.

Anyone got any ideas for an impromptu tourney we can have in June or July? Preferably in the salt.

Maybe an MBF at Ft. Ross, Stillwater North, or Anchor Bay?

Haliper tourney in the bay?

Tomales shark derby?

Post your ideas here. I'm willing to help out in any way needed.

I think Jim might actually be up for that and  I'll talk to him when I see him today.  The launch near Jim's place requires a FAC ocean so it'll probably be too weather dependent to hold the contest just there.  Meanwhile, Bodega Bay (esp. Bodega Harbor) isn't great for fishing with the exception of an occasional halibut.  Maybe, we fish anywhere along the Sonoma Co Coast between Bodega Bay and Gualala, meet back at Jim's in the early afternoon for weigh in and BBQ.  Depending on the interest there might be enough room to camp at Jim's otherwise, there is plenty of camping in Bodega Bay and up near Salt Point.  July could mean salmon, halibut, rockfish, and lingcod.

I didn't see Jim today, so we're still on for a surprise if you want.  We might want to let his wife Jess in on it though, I'm pretty sure she can keep a secret.  Good thing Jim rarely reads the forum.

I have soooo many people coming in and out of my place I probably wouldn't even notice.  But seriously, lets try to do something in July.  I like bsteves idea of camping at the ranch if you want and making the boundaries Bodega Bay to Ocean Cove.  From my place its about 1hr to ocean cove...so pretty easy compared to what most people drive.  And I have great venue for BBQ etc.  Would need help if we wanted to get fancy with raffle etc.  I like mbf style.  Weigh in could be in afternoon, and will soooo many places to launch even if weather is less than optimal we probably could get something out of more protected areas.  But I am looking forward to some epic conditions for a tourney.

I talked to Jim today at work.  Here's our current idea...

How about a "Bodega Bay Angler of the Day" tournament?  Same basic rules as AOTY (total points based on length for your best fish of each species).  We could even make it a semi-virtual tournament in that participants can C&R if they take the standard photos with measurements.

We're thinking sign in and pay your entry at Jim's on Friday night or early Saturday morning, fish anywhere in Sonoma County (fresh and/or salt) be back by say 3pm on Saturday to have your fish measured and/or your photos looked at on Jim's computer.   The person with the most points wins the money and the rest just enjoy a nice BBQ/potluck.

The other idea we're working on is a team tournament of some sort, maybe something like the Randy Frey tournament last October.  Teams of two entering their two best fish for weight.

As for date, maybe the weekend after 4th of July or the weekend after that.

We'll still be in Mx the 7th and 8th, but back for the 14th and 15th.  Love the format, hope we can make it!

I talked to Jim, I think the 14-15th is best for us as well.  Although I'm scheduled to get my last two remaining wisdom teeth yanked on the 10th, so you'll have to excuse me if my jaw is puffy and I mumble a bit.

If camping is still an option, I'm in! A plus, but not a necessity, would be someone to buddy up with me on the ocean. If you need help with the BBQ or a full-blown tournament, I'm willing to help, too.

Janice,

There's probably room for 10 or so tents on Jim's "lawn", plus there is plenty of camping in the area (Bodega Bay to Salt Point).
