Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Old Town PDL Drive. I have some Qs ???
« on: June 06, 2022, 12:50:13 AM »
Hello
I have a brand new PDL Drive By Old Town .
Today I took its for its maiden voyage today.

It feels heavy as if im on a bicyle going uphill
In a low gear .  Its sort of uncomfortable.

Its defineatly feeling heavy .  Im moving thru the
Currentless glass like no wind lake.  Can defineatly
Hear the pinion gears meshing with one another.
Very stiff.

Im hoping that its just needing break in time and will
Lighten up.  Is there anyone who has any experience
With getting these drives too loosen up a bit ?

Rear Diff fluid . :smt044

Yours Mooshue 5000...

Old Town Big Water 132 vs Hobie Outback .
13" 2"  Vs.  12' 6".   Propellar drive or Fin ?
Two major differences.  As well as lenghth.
Savings of a 1000 bill. Used demo oldtown
Brand new hobie ?s.

Saw a deal on a demo and wanted to save a thousand dollars.
And be safe and happy too.

So i want to crab,  rock fish, chase salmon, halibut in the ocewn waters.
Would i be safe and happy in the Old Town Vs the Hobie Outback ...

It would be my very first kayak and kayak purchase.
Ive spend hours on Youtube and on web watchin and learning and ive narrowed it down
To something like these.

Thioughts ?

Im am soo ready to get into a kayak.
By 6:00 AM today.  Im parked and down
On the rocks.

Foggy still and 8 second period between waves.
Only slipped 3 times having a great morning so
Far.  One small blue catch n released.

About 9:00 am time to move. In route slipped hard
Knocked the wind out of myself snapped the tip
Off my pole.

Kept fishing with my broken rod tip .  Hooked into a nice
Greenling put on my stinger in a tide pool.
Big wave came thru and swept my fish and stringer away.

Ive never had such a fantastic day.
Back at the car by 11:00 and stopped at the Ft. Ross over look
And saw an entire floatilla of about 28 kayaks.
Im really ready for the kayak world.

Weather was great.  Fishing for me was slow at best.
Cheers Y`All....

Really want to give a first hand conditions report more than anything.
Went rock fishing up along Norther parts of Salt Point from shore.
Weather wind was less than 6mph. 5 ft swell at 7 seconds apart or so
With some smaller chop mixed in no white capping though.
Not too hot not too cold just right.  I think if i was in a kayak defineatetly
Feel a bit beat up at the end.

It took a while but i bagged a super nice brown rock fish fed mom and i.
Caught him on a hi Lo rig with 1oz. Sinker using cut squid.
Okuma 12 ft. Rod medium action. Penn fierce long cast spool.

And i caught a baby Spring Ling.  Used a green pumpkin swim bait.
Scented with squid flavored pro cure super gel .
Using a medium fast retrieve.  That was the two catches of the day trip.

Saw some deer, waved at the whales fed a raven caught a couple
Fish.  Great day trip.
